Default Trouble Getting Vibrations.
Hi, I have been trying for the last week to have an OBE but for some reason it just won't happen. I can relax to the point where I lose feeling in my body, but after that it just feels like im in a void thinking to myself. So my question is, Is there any simple way to bring about the vibrations, or perhaps a technique that I could practice that would help me bring about the feeling of vibrations?

Any Suggestions are highly appreciated.

Do you have a set practice?

ps. You don't always get vibrations; there are other exit sensations to watch for. Vibrations are the most obvious and unmistakeable of the exit sensations, but some people just don't get them.

Could you describe what are the steps you take when you want to project?

You might be trying too hard.

Remember that the correct physical state is somewhere between asleep and awake, less than dreaming but more than mild relaxation.

If you're just lying there twiddling your mental thumbs and waiting for something to happen it may never. You have to be fully conscious along the ride as your body drifts closer and closer towards the sleep state.

I'd advise you to "let go" a little. Try to mentally step away from your void into a downward feeling stream that brings you closer to sleep. Try to take notice of the first feeling, wave, light pattern, or strange sound that is on top of the void but definitely not from the physical. Don't focus so hard that it breaks your relaxation and clear mind, but keep your attention on this first element. Let it consume you and let it grow and manifest into stronger imagery or a stronger feeling.

Eventually it will get *really* strong and turn into waves that pulse your entire being or wash over you. Try (again, lightly) to home into one of these waves and let it carry you to wherever it may, and vibrations are sure to follow. The trick is to try to get closer and closer to this state each time you try to project. At first, most of us get overly excited or nervous when things start getting really strange and the physical body's response to this (adrenaline, rapid heartbeat) will pull us right out of relaxation. If this happens, either calm down and try again or mark it as a successful progression and go to sleep.

And by all means keep us informed of your progress!

CFTraveler- I don't really do much since im just trying to relax and keep my mind clear, but I Stretch a bit and do some breathing exercises, then I lay down and do a relaxing exercise (Tense each muscle 1 by 1). Thats about all I do, think maybe I should start doing alittle more in preparation before just jumping into it?


lucidcruiser99-I think your right, I usaually just end up laying there waiting for something to happen. Next time I try (Probally tomorrow when I wake up) i'll have to try "letting go". The way you explained it makes it seem easy.

Another thing, I also smoke Marijuana and wanted to know if this would affect my succes on having and OBE. I apologize if your not allowed to talk about this on here, but im just curious if it affects my chances.

This is discussed elsewhere, but I think Evil Knievel put it best when he said that it's like using NOS in a race car engine. It may give you a boost for a few laps but very quickly you're burnt out, sputtering and motionless, unable to move forward.

When I'm in meditation, I sometimes get the vibrations in my arms and other parts of my body. Does this mean that I'm closer to having an OBE?

I would add energy work (not as part of the projection attempt, but during other parts of the day- NEW is very helpful, especially sponging or 'blue energy ball' prestimulation, and the full body-bounce).
After relaxation work (as you described) I do some energy raising (The full-body circuit, as it helps with projection lucidity and duration), then (and this is important, IMO I do energy body loosening exercises, and if there are no symptoms, I then settle into 'noticing'.

Besides issues of legalities, realize that what you are trying to do here is achieve control of the projection process. Marihuana defeats that purpose.

well panda, i also smoke marijuana and as for energy raising and such, the NEW energy ways are eeeeeeeasy to do when you're faded. in a way i think that it brings you more in tune with your energy body as well as physical one, i remember a few times i smoked some 'stress' and since it was one of my first times, i got HEAVY vibrations yet it would sometimes make me excited to the point where i would lose control over the state that i've achieved- in short, you become more sensitive to energy and relaxation leading to oobe's, but you have less control over it. If you can control your mind and relax you -will- lose all feeling in your body 10 times faster than you normally would sober.
also this may be a little uncalled for, but certain... uh... 'personal' sexual experiences can relax you to the point where your body is exhausted, and also if you're on weed, if that combination doesnt knock you out and you can remain in control of the hypnagogic state (between waking and sleeping consciousness) you can get out, but more often than not you'll lose control and drift off to sleep...
this is from my personal experiences, i hope that it's of use to you, and btw i've never projected when i'm on weed, i always end up passing out
