So, I have had some quite wonderful OBE recalls from dreaming, throughout my life, that have remained as favorite memories. They all involve exploring otherworldly places, and learning something interesting, or seeing something beautiful that doesn't exist in this reality. I've never really shared these memories, and they end up lost in a dream journal. I thought it might be fun to take the time to write down all the ones I can remember, and invite others to do the same. Perhaps we've even been to some of the same places
So here goes...I'll kick it off with my favorite three... |

Okay, so this one I posted in the poll on OBEs with a Spiritual/Learning Intention: I was in an underground cave carved in a mountain that was renovated into a library. While walking through the stacks, I looked up toward one wall that contained a huge window. It revealed a cross-section of the mountain I was in, with jagged light-brown rock meeting the crashing turquoise sea. The sea was very rough, and large rollers were hitting the mountain. On the rock ledge, something caught my eye as the waves pulled back. They were crystals, formed on the rock ledge, they were a few feet high, a large collection of them, and they were a color I have never seen in any natural crystal we have access to. They were shaped like a cluster of quartz, only they glowed from the inside with a color that was deep turquoise, almost teal. (Actually like the color in my avatar!) |

I woke up in my dream to realize I was flying, only not by my own volition: I was being held in the talons of an enormous bird-dragon creature, which I discovered when I twisted myself around to see up at it as much as I could. I wasn't very big in relation to this mystical being. Turning my gaze around, I could see that I was in a foreign world. It was completely pink, the color of the sky when there is a particularly remarkable sunset - that coral hue that spreads across the horizon and paints the rest of the landscape with its tint. In front of me, I could see the horizon, only there was no sunset and no sun. It was not dusk and the whole world was lit equally with no one light source. The sky was pink and I was flying over an ocean which was also pink. It was like a water world. The water was clear enough to see straight through to the bottom and I could see strange formations on the bottom - a series of circles, like tennis-ball tins stacked all together - the same size circle, yet different heights. They were also these strange pink color. Everything - the air, the water, the sky, the bottom beneath the water - were all this ethereal pink color with traces of blue in it - a bit the way spilled gasoline looks on the water's surface beside your motorboat. Perhaps by my desire/intention, I became drawn closer to explore these spongy-looking circular posts below the water, and the bird-dragon flew me lower over the water so that I was skimming just above it, staring with my eyes wide! Then it gently dropped me in the water, and I discovered that the water was as warm and pleasant as the air and wind had been, and I was there, on my hands in knees, in only about a foot of water, on top of these spongy soft circular 'posts' that formed the bottom. Ha ha! There I was, just staring at this foreign sea-bottom. I saw the creature recently in a book of Tibetan mandalas - it is called Garuda - it is some kind of mystical eagle. I've met one other person who has also recalled flying in the talons of this creature! ~P |

One morning I woke up from a dream where I had been inside what looked like a very large and old castle. It had stone walls and floor; the bricks were very large and the walls very thick. It was soundproof and there weren't many windows, the only ones I recall seeing were very small and very high up near the ceiling, which was also very high. Throughout the night I had been inside this castle, and various teachers had visited me within the rooms, although when I woke up I could not remember what we had discussed. I do remember that it seemed to happen in shifts; that at times I was alone with a teacher, another time there was a larger group of mixed young men and women my age bustling around and talking, and before I woke up, I remember the last part the most clearly. I was with a young woman my age who looked Afghani, I would say, but not certain. We were training with nuns--no men were in this particular version of the 'castle-training' scene. She had taken me outside for a bit and I was testing out my flying/hovering skills (I am a very skilled flier) and we were hovering above an ocean that was partially frozen near the coast. I could see waves that appeared to be frozen in place, small waves about 1 foot high. The sunlight was very bright although it was winter and extremely cold. I did not mind the temperature at all. This senior student had taken a fruit basket out and left it on the frozen surface as an offering. I was practicing placing the weight of my feet down on the surface of the water, testing its solidity. It was slushy and would not have held me if I had placed my full weight down on it. I was able to suspend myself effortlessly above the surface and place my feet down to touch the top of the slushy water without losing balance or dropping. I was skipping along a bit like the old Taoist gung fu masters. Later we were back in the castle room getting ready to go to sleep for the night. She was getting into her bed, a single cot with a sheet and a brown wool blanket, pulling it up over her and talking to me. I remember her speaking to me specifically about what it is like to be a minority ethnicity. She was saying that one feels 'intimidation' directed at them by (dominant white culture). I remember thinking about that, realizing I am not always aware of that when I am interacting with someone who is of another ethnicity. Then I remember that instead of getting into bed to sleep, I floated up toward the high small window that was propped open, I was slipping through it, sneaking out into the night to enjoy the delight of flying.... Okay - those are my three. Next! |

I enjoyed reading your experiences Pilar!
I had a very strange lucid dream which just might have been my first ever OBE a few years ago. I wasnt sure what was going on at the time but it went something like this.... I was dreaming that I was talking with my friends at a tram stop after a night out when a winged creature grabbed me by my neck and took me away. I didnt get a chance to see what it looked like because i was in a lot of pain and couldnt move (It felt as though the claws penetrated my neck) but i could see a shadow on the ground below me which looked like a dragon with a human shaped head. anyway after reading your story I looked up garuda in wikipedia and im now pretty sure it was the same creature you are talking about. Its funny how you seemed to have a very pleasent experience with it while I seriously was in a lot of pain and anguish. I remember clearly waking up that night only to find myself in bed, paraylised and still in a bit of pain and having a huge sensation of energy moving around in my chest. I heard the most frightening voice talk to me in my left ear but i couldnt understand a word it was saying. the energy levels in my chest became much stronger and I seriously thought I was dying although at that point I didnt feal scared.... its wierd, I was very confused but i was just riding the experience out. In the end I ended up waking up for the second time only to realise i was safe in bed and it had all been a dream!! crazy ha? well since then ive tried to figure out what happened that night and I stumbled across astral projections and OBE's. Ive actually had three or four spontanious OBE's since then and last night I even had my first wake induced OBE but I think it all started with my experience with a garuda |
