Default Almost...I think
A bit of a mundane question:

I think I was very close to projecting consciously earlier today, using the rope technique, and a few days ago, but I aborted it because of the rapid increase in my heart rate. I was rather concerned that this was not non-physical because when I stopped and felt my pulse in my neck I could feel it beating faster than usual: obviously not non-physical. Afterwards, I felt a bit disorientated.

Is this something to worry about or should I have let the process proceed and enjoy my first conscious experience?

I'm 16 by the way and I'm not sure whether I am ready for an OBE yet or if it is safe for me, but I feel the need to try. I would consider myself an emotionally stable person. However, I got rather scared when I thought I was about to exit.

Hi Hammer,

I think overcoming fear is a big aspect for the majority of first time projectors. It can be scary but much of the fear does eventually dissolve. So, it's really up to you. Know that there are plenty of people who have done it and lived to tell a jolly good tale.

It's not that I fear much about being outside of my body. I am just concerned about any physical damage because my heart was physically beating faster during the experience when I stopped to check it. I don't want to cause any physical complications.

It's possible that your accelerated rate was due to the fear- have you ever had palpitations for no apparent reason any other time?

Sometimes my heart speeds up when I'm practicing. My eyebrows flutter a bit too - like thehammer, I've been using the Rope Technique when this has happened.

It usually distracts me so much that I can't continue for very long. It's quite annoying, really. I don't think mine is due to fear, since I'm not afraid to project - it could be due to excitement on my part, perhaps. Perhaps it's also a sign that you're coming closer?

I hope you're doing trance work before trying the Rope technique.
If you're getting both eyelid flutter and heart activity, chances are you're close to REM and the heart activity is heart chakra activity. Are you in trance when this happens?
It usually distracts me so much that I can't continue for very long . This makes me think you're not in trance. Try to go into trance and to experience pre-exit symptoms before trying rope. If you use rope too early, you'll train yourself to 'not exit' with it, and when you're ready, it won't work. There are many methods to go into trance before you go into an exit technique, which is what rope is.
It's quite annoying, really. I don't think mine is due to fear, since I'm not afraid to project - it could be due to excitement on my part, perhaps. Perhaps it's also a sign that you're coming closer? I'm not sure- excitement seems right, and heart chakra activity (mine goes crazy when I'm near the exit). When I was starting out, doing NEW made my eyes go crazy with the flutter and the REM-like symptoms. Then Brian Mercer suggested I do New with my eyes open. So for the NEW part of the proceedings, I'd have my eyes open (in the dark, back then I was doing my practice at night). It was weird at first, but I learned to control the eye thing that way. After I was done with all the NEW work, and it was time to do trance practice, I got comfy and closed my eyes. This made a big diff. in my results. Big difference.
See if any of this helps you.

Probably not. I try to relax and clear my mind before using the technique, but I don't think I've been in a full trance whenever I've used it.

Thanks for your advice.
