Default Body Spinning
This past weekend I had some time to myself during the day and decided to try and project or take a nap, whichever came first. I started to drift off to sleep a little and woke up enough to remember CFTraveler's post about listening to the ringing in the ears to induce an OBE. So I tried that and the ringing became much more intense and seemed to come from outside of me. I remember having a realization that I often heard this more powerful ringing when OBEing from sleep in the past.

I felt the vibrations hit and let them course through me for a while and then intensely thought, I will project from my body right now! And I did.

I couldn't see anything at first so I tried to tell myself to see and when eventually I did, I was floating in a place I didn't recognize. There were large concrete walls everywhere, kind of industrial and gray. I was thinking this might be not the best place to hang around, so I went back to my body but I was still "loose."

I spun around within my body and it felt really good to do this. When I finally decided to get up I felt very energized and in a really good mood. I think I'd like to try the body spinning some more some time.

I love spinning as well, often I do it if the dream scenery begins to fade. The sensation of moving re-solidifies the dream scene about 70% of the time. Other times it can change the whole dream scene.

In my experience, when you are in a lucid dream or projection, you spin the dream body just like you do when your a child trying to get dizzy.
I did an experiment in conjunction with other lucid dreamers, in a lucid dreaming forum that was on a lucid dreaming website.

The experiment was to spin when a lucid dream was fading and the dreamer was waking up. The sensation of spinning seems to serve to give one enough sensations to trick one into staying in the dream, perhaps due to the fact that you can really really feel the spinning sensation. The results were varied, sometimes the dream scene would change, sometimes a false awakening would ensue, other times one would wake up.

The highest percentage of results, though, was that the dream would re-solidify. I don't recall the actual results in terms of how many dreamers conducted the controlled experiment, or what the actual percentages were, but they concluded that it was one of the most effective ways they had to maintain the dream scene.

Unfortunately they discontinued the forum. Not sure why.
Dr. Stephen Laberge was the founder I believe. He has a book out called Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming.
Good book, lots of techniques.
It is geared more towards a scientific approach to dreaming aware.
A must read, in my opinion.

There are two reasons why I spin during OBEs.

1. To gain sight

2. To relocate dimensionally

1. Sometimes I find myself with very blurry vision, sometimes no vision at all. So I move away from my body. However, this does not always help, possibly due to a low energy state at the time. So I spin as fast as I can, for an average of ten to twenty spins. When I am done spinning, 95% of the time I can see, and my energy level increases.

2. Somtimes if I get bored of an area I am in, I will spin rapidly to transport myself somewhere else. I have had various results with this. Usually spinning will transport me to a higher dimension or astral plane. One time it actually transported me into someones dream. It was wild.

I'm not sure if I was very clear on what my experience was. What I was actually doing or what it felt like I was doing was spinning with my astral or energy body within my physical body.

My body was laying flat on my bed motionless and I spun within it. I don't think I could see anything as I did this, just changes in light as I faced my side, my back toward the matress, my other side and then my front. I could really feel the spinning though and it felt good for some reason.

This is one of the few times I recall not being able to see during an OBE or whatever this would be classified as when I returned to my body still disconnected. It wasn't hard to reconnect when I was ready to end the experience.
