Since a young age (from about 14 as far as I can remember) I have sometimes experienced the following sensation when falling asleep - especially when I was ill (fever or similar). More recently when trying to meditate or project during the 'vibration' stage I am still feeling the same thing...

I feel a great blackness around me, much like a void. The pressure feeling could be described as being a particle in a lump of metal. I feel extremely 'small' and the whole sensation is not pleasant at all.
I also get a feeling of chaos and a loss of control.

Does anyone have any similar experiences or perhaps have an explanation for this?
(BTW I have not had a successful projection as yet).

I used to feel this a lot when I was young as well, sometimes alternating between strong feelings of being the smallest thing of the universe, and feeling like I was expanding.

I understand what you mean by "feeling of chaos" ; it's a good way to describe it. I don't know how to explain it, but I would often feel two extremely strong opposing forces fighting each other.

I've read (and believe) that this is related to the Etheric body expanding during the hypnogogic and hypnopompic stages of sleep -- most people are usually unconscious when it happens, but when you are aware of it, it can produce these feelings.

I also remember strange 'expanding' sensations as a kid.

Whilst laying in bed I would feel as if parts of my body were much much bigger than they really were, a feeling of nausea and hearing/feeling a 'sound' (not a sound really, more like a vibration I guess) of marching.

Its very difficult to describe this is the way I remember it... not really a sound of men marching, more like a throbbing inside my head.

I believe I have read something about this. What you may be expirencing is the beginning of entering the trance state. As Robert says, you can feel like you are in a much bigger place, and you will feel as if you are expanding. Not his exact words, but around there anyways. This maybe what you are expirencing. I don't, however, remember him saying it was a scary thing, but like most things, if you don't know what they are it can be very scary.

this is really weird and i forgot all about it. i used to have really scary episodes with this feeling and a lot of the time i mentally saw huge tires and FELT these tires too... i don't how else to explain it. the way i remember it, i think i was somewhat hallucinating too.
