Default ways of reducing fear (?)
hello AP friends,

my only obsticle to achieving a conscious OBE is the fear,

the out of body environment is so sensitive, thoughts quickly fanifest to images and sensations, it just feels so creepy for me to be on the threshold of my body and on the verge of floating into a completely foreign dimension.

also, after reading about the "dweller on the threshold" and negative entities, i cant help but have these things in my mind when im on the edge.

because of this i nearly always retreat, out of sheer creeped out ness, back into my body, and each time i tell myself, next time i wont be such a wuss.

So does anyone have any good ways of reducing fear?

and also, i believe i have a negative attachment, assuming i get OOB will i find this thing clinging to me?

thanks.

About the only way I found of reducing fear was by realizing (in my own experiences) that no matter what happened, no matter how threatening or frightening, I woke up every morning alive and with all my parts.
A good tool to have (and yes, I'm aware that this doesn't work for everyone) is to know what you're afraid of- if you already know, explore it. If you have good visualization skills, visualize what you're afraid of, visualize the worst possible scenario, then open your eyes and see that you're still here. If you are afraid you will be confronting subconscious fears, ask yourself (once again, not recommended for everyone) to reveal to yourself what your fears are, and have a nightmare. If you do this and then wake up in the morning, you'll realize that the main difference between a nightmare and facing your fears in the astral is that in a nightmare, you're not lucid, and you think that is reality, but in the astral you know who you are and what you are doing, and you know you can get out of it. Now I know that some people don't, but many of us have learned to do it.
As to negs I would think that you do see them in the astral, but I couldn't be sure. In my case I was attacked in the etheric, never in the astral. And I have read (I believe it was in PPSD) that negs don't necessarily inhabit the astral, they stay in the in-between etheric, but I don't know enough to say for sure.
ps. I do believe a religious belief can be helpful when dealing with fears- faith in God goes a long way to help you feel secure, and it is my belief ( ) that your fears or lack of fears go a long way to keep you secure.
I hope it wasn't too confusing.

Here's a post with some tips on dealing with fear.

http://www.saltcube.com/?t=sp-fear

It's mainly about fear when in sleep paralysis but those things pretty much apply in all OBE situations. Especially the idea of going into an OBE hoping that something frightening will happen so that you can prove that it doesn't scare you.

your negative attachment is a major problem which you need to resolve.

unlike in exorcism movies and classic history, negative attachments are usually angry people spirits. just like the living can be angry because their parents beat them or abuses to which the individual had encountered, so too attachments like this experienced something which made them angry or bitter.

so in the same way a person needs help, so too does your attachment. the answer to helping the attachment is realizing that he/she is with you for a reason. that you need to help the attachment to help yourself.

the best way i know (from experience) to help a negative spirit entity is through a genuine sense of compassion, announcing to the individual that you love him/her and wish him/her to escape your mutual turmoil by going to the light. that once inside the light, he/she will find their loved ones with total and absolute certainty.

everyone has had someone dear who has passed. don't presume to know who that person is which will help them to the light. simply engage in a thinking or spoken process of communicating with your companion to explain all of this.

you may also try visualizing the white tunnel of light to help your attachment in. reassure them it is ok, this is where you need to go. you will find peace and infinite joy there.

once liberated, you will both feel better.

then you should find it much easier to shake your fear. you may even discover your love returned as the entity, once having been in the light, might help you now from the light!

let me know if this helps.

cheers

Boris,

First of all, I'm curious how you came to believe that you have a negative attachment? It is certainly possible that you do; however, especially since you've come close to having an OBE and you've been feeling a lot of fear of what you might encounter, it's also possible that what you're feeling is simply a thought-form made of negative energy created by your own fear.

If it's a thought form, you need to disbelieve it and command it to go away (or destroy it and replace it with positive energy). Then work on overcoming your fears with the advice others have already given, and with some further advice I'll give in another post.

If it's an actual negative entity: Sylvanus might be right and it might be a human spirit. Gently trying to send it to the light is worth a try. However, many "negs" are naturally negative and parasitic and their nature is unchangeable. Trying to send such an entity into the light would be like trying to teach a mosquito to survive without sucking the blood of animals.

In Practical Psychic Self-Defense, Robert Bruce specifically brings up the "Love-and-Light Approach" as ineffective and counterproductive--it can provide a nasty neg with something to feed off of, and may encourage it to pretend to be a poor misguided soul while continuing to attack or feed on you.

I'd recommend getting PPSD if you don't already have it; there are many countermeasures for protecting yourself. One thing that might be worth a try is doing a LBRP (Lesser Banishment Ritual of the Pentagram) before you attempt to project. There are instructions for doing it on the net (google LBRP), and there is a simplified version of it in PPSD.

It's also a good idea to shield your aura--again, you'll find plenty of info on this on the net. The basic idea is that you use creative visualization to create a protective energy shell around yourself, imagining that it keeps all negative energy from getting to you. (Specifically imagine it so that it only keeps negative or otherwise unwanted energy out, so that you can still be open to perceiving/receiving positive energy.) The shield should be reinforced on a regular basis.

This has a dual benefit--along with having an actual barrier of protective energy, it also helps you psychologically in that it will help reduce your fear, and thus reduce the chance that you will create a negative thought-form or attract a negative entity.

On the subject of getting rid of fear, it's important to keep in mind that your subconscious doesn't work in negatives.

Do not try to will yourself to "stop being afraid".

I remember, long ago in my high school Psychology class, one day the teacher wrote a number on the blackboard at the end of class and said he would give extra credit to anyone who could FORGET the number he wrote. As you can probably imagine, no one was able to forget the number. (One kid tried claiming he did, but the teacher tricked him into saying the number by saying that now he'd give him an A on the next test if he said the number. )

To reiterate: Trying to think about getting rid of your fear will really cause you to keep thinking about your fear!

Instead, when you find fear creeping up (especially if it's at night or if you are getting close to OBE and you feel a negative "presence" closing in), you need to replace the fear in your mind with something positive. Fill yourself with thoughts of courage and confidence. Tell yourself that you, and only you, have power over yourself. Remind yourself that the vast, vast majority of "negs" that bother with people are actually relatively weak without our fear to feed them; they do not have the limitless source of energy that we have. If you feel a neg, confidently tell it that it is not welcome and that it must leave. This doesn't need to be overly aggressive, but you need to establish that you know you are the one in control, and that you are prepared to defend yourself.

Another thing to do is, while you are working on leaving your body, imagine that your astral self is in a safe, serene, positive place in the higher astral where there are no negs. As you project, focus on going straight to this positive place and leaving any negativity behind.

Alternatively, you can use a projection as an opportunity to face down any negs around you. When you're projected and you're confident in yourself, you are something for them to fear.

I will relate an empowering experience I had years ago.

Back when I was doing a lot of energy work, trying to project (couldn't do it from full consciousness, but I could occasionally project early in the morning when I was drifting in and out of sleep) and having lots of lucid dreams, I occasionally woke up and felt negative presences in the middle of the night. I could generally make them go away by focusing on my shields and commanding them to leave, but it took some effort to keep my confidence and not feed them with fear.

On one of those occasions, I woke up and felt a negative entity enter my room. I was struck by fear. However, I sensed that my body was close enough to sleep that I might be able quickly project or enter a wake induced lucid dream. I instinctively pushed my body to sleep and lifted my consciousness up to a standing position.

I suddenly found myself standing high up on a mountain, looking at the neg, which happened to be standing near a cliff. (I'm not sure if I technically projected or entered a lucid dream state; either way, I'm pretty sure I was dealing with the neg that had come into my room.) The entity looked like a smoky black thing in a vaguely humanoid form. Suddenly I found my fear replaced by complete confidence and a fierce intention to defend myself. Without even thinking about it--and I'm not sure where I got the idea to do this--I stepped toward the neg (which seemed quite taken by surprise) and yelled "I BANISH YOU!!!" I yelled it more loudly and forcefully than anything I've ever yelled physically (I'm generally a very calm and non-temperamental person).

The neg immediately evaporated; it was like it just disentegrated into a fine dust, and then a gust of wind blew it off the cliff, dispersing it. I took advantage of the dream/projected state I was in to call on a guide to talk to, but of course I couldn't remember any of the conversation when I woke up; but there was definitely no more neg in my room.
