A lot of the time I'll have my eyes closed and be trying to see my surroundings. I'll start getting visual impressions, but it's definitely different from actually seeing them, it's definitely in my mind, but it definitely feels like my visual cortex is being activated... and sometimes I'll almost feel like I'm actually seeing a real representation of what's going on. I was on a subway for instance, and it started moving, and in my mental impression I noticed that in the window the station was rapidly moving by, exactly how it would have looked.
I want to know people's opinions. Should I disregard this? It seems mental rather than visual, but what does it mean? |

Thanks for the info.
I'm attempting to practice how to do this more easily, and hopefully I will be able to write an article up about it once I figure out the mechanics behind it. However for now this is something that I found interesting: --- If you sit in a dark room and use a camera flash to light up the room for a split second, shutting your eyes at the right moment will allow you to see the entire room with your eyes closed - which is a pretty awesome feeling. If it doesn't work at first, sometimes it helps to use a semi-dark room and sit close to a particular object. Focusing on the object for 20-30 seconds, then repeating as above generates the same effect. However only parts of it might be visible, but repeating the experiment increases how much is visible. This technique stemmed from an exercise developed to increase the ability to see auras, where one had to focus on a candle flame, then closing eyes and attempting to retain the after image in the minds eye for as long as possible. I think it might be possible to activate "natural" astral sight with these techniques but I haven't met other people who have had similar experiences after experimenting with such yet. I still sometimes get the impression that it is an after-image effect and nothing more, however Robert Bruce stated in his Aura sight article that it this kind of vision often appears as just an after-image but is actually the activation of aura/astral sight. I've found that by closing my eyes in any area now I automatically recall the last scene that I saw in front of me for 10-15 seconds. Last week I was using Hemi-Sync and was almost sure that I could barely see my ceiling with my eyes shut, but I can't say for certain because I don't remember how tight my eyes were shut - especially since Hemi-Sync puts you in trance making details harder to remember. Well this has happened 2 me about 4 times but i closed my eyes and then after about 10 seconds i saw a glimpse of my ceiling, then i concentrated and saw the whole room it seemed like it was looking through a camera kinda because it looked from a far away view.
After i opened my eyes i thought what the hell was that it was so awesum. And then 1 time i meditated for a while and then i did it again i concentrated and i saw my room its very very weird and havent said anything about it because i just never thought of it. But the problem is i have never conciously remembered any astral projections before and i was thinking i'd need 2 have at least have projected to do this. |

Thats happened often with me when trying to project. I'm usually sitting in a chair, feeling very heavy and BAM, I'll see though my closed eye lids, and my sight is much more detailed than normal, I notice much more of the detail of the room I am in, and seems much more crisp. Usually I can only hold the seeing through my eye lids for about 5 seconds then my vision goes dark, but this will happen on and off constantly through the meditation session at that level.

I have no other abilities exept for to "see" ;( - can experience no other senses when I travel - I can share how I experience astral sight -
Have had experiences where I don't exactly see through my eyelids - but more like I am watching a movie behind my eyelids - the type of sight or vision is also very different than normal seeing - depending on where I am traveling the sight varies - I think in "real time" it is pretty much seeing with a normal type of vision (have only had this happen once during the day where I saw myself travel in real time - when I travel at night on the physical plane and "see" - everything is mostly dark - as it is "night" - can only see outlines of - for example - rooms - tables - doorways etc...) - the seeing behind my eyelids changes though when I find myself traveling dimensionally - depending on where I am it changes - I have seen pure blackness with only red or green energy outlines, I have seen a bluish background with grid-like lines all over my field of vision, I have seen with grayish black and white fuzzy vision - like watching bad tv reception, during these times on several occasions, I have seen non-human lifeforms. I have also experienced two different times where I am "seeing" and when I open my eyes - the vision of what I am viewing project onto my field of regular vision - seeing two things at once.. My only problem is that I can't control these seeing times - they just happen - and I can only stay in the state of seeing for a very short time.. does anyoe know how to maintain the "seeing" state for longer periods of time? I am hoping that doing energy work will help we will see.. |

This has happend to me. The other day i was trying to have a obe, so I lay down and stay in that position trying not to move at all. Using breathing techniques, like imaging when i inhale i'm taking in my breath or energy from my feet and all the way up to my head, then on exhale from my head all the way out of my feet. Anyways i felt the sensation that was going to project or soemthing and i got scared and oborted it..... i know that sucks...but shortly after that i could see my ceiling with closed eyelids, that was cool, it was kinda of blurry though like a black and white tv, but i deffinetly saw thru them. After that i sort of waked up and i was paralyzed and i, it lasted about 5 seconds.

I had stopped attempting OBE for a while (although I have had a few random experiences when I was younger), due to some very stressful things going on in my life that are now (finally!) resolved. Now that things are good again in my life, I feel like I'm in a place psychologically where I can start working on this again.
On astral sight, however, I find that I achieve that fairly easily. Not quite on demand, but quite frequently, anyway. Even while I was going through my rough patch over the past few months, I found that I was able to do so--without even trying. I would just suddenly realize that it was happening. I'm hoping this is a good sign that I will have future success with OBE in general. Honestly, I don't know how or why I am able to do this, but it's fairly consisent and I find it fascinating. I am interested in seeing (yes, bad pun intended!) if I can get to the point where I am able to control it. It's so good to be back in my "happy place" and to be able to pursue my interest in OBE again! |

When I was very (very) young, I remember laying in my bed with my eyes closed and being able to see. I did this a lot. When I got older I thought they were repetitive dreams. Then, when I started OBing deliberately, I was able to 'observe' the phenomenon and study it. I have found that I get Astral Sight (RB's term for this phenomenon) in clusters, 2 or 3 days before I project, and on the day I project. I sometimes get it in displaced hypnagogics- I will be sitting in my chair in front of the dresser with my eyes closed, but will actually be seeing the dresser from the side, as if I was standing in front of my body sideways. The weird thing is that I can see what I'm seeing but don't feel I'm there- my awareness is almost completely on my sitting body, except for the visuals. Talk about weird!

I experienced the phenomenon when I was in my last year of unit (about 18 years ago)! I was reading a book that had to be read quickly and I was really tired. I was on my back in bed. I had closed my eyes, without realising, but was still holding the book up (I know that sounds a bit unbelievable). Anyway, I finished the page before I realised my eyes were closed.
Back then, knew nothing about astral sight and thought it must have been an example of what people meant by photographic memory. Have never had problems with astral sight in my few OBEs. At most, a bit of strobing and issues with bi-location. |

I've been starting to experience this in little glimpses and flashes lately during meditation...
When I close my eyes a lot during energy work, this green/purple patch will show up in the blackness. So the other day during meditation I was staring at that patch, and it vanished like my visual eyesight disengaged, like when you stare at your hand in the dark and your hand "disappears." At that same moment of disengagement, I felt that telltale "open eyes" feeling and felt a sort of "veil lifting" sensation as if my right eye were opening, and I glimpsed the gray carpet of the room I was in at the time. It was so vivid that for a second I thought that my eye had slipped open. The sensation was accompanied by something auditory, like a humming or buzzing. Good stuff! If anyone has more tips about enhancing this, I'd love to hear them. |

It happens to me alot, but im not sure if im seeing things in the room or just imagining everything in perfect detail. I can visualize pretty good. If i know the area i can shut my eyes right now and imagine the lake house that my grandparents own in near perfect detail cept for the fact that they either arnt there or I can see what they would be doing if they were there. Thinking about doing an experiment maybe while im meditating with my eyes closed get someone to bring in a object any object but something that you couldnt guess in a million years and set it down 7 feet infront of you and try to sense what they set down. Ill try this later on because im at work right now.
