Hi Paper,
1st of all welcome to the forum and secondly you are not alone. Most people here have been through what you have experienced at some time or another. It may seem frightening, but the experiences you appear to be having are not uncommon. There are plenty of articles which will provide you with background to help you decipher and begin to understand many of your experiences on the main site http://www.astraldynamics.com The paralysis is a frequent subject with all OBEers and is discussed at length in Robert Bruces book Astral Dynamics. Also see his article Avoiding Waking Paralysis (Sleep Paralysis)? See: http://www.astraldynamics.com/tutori...BulletinID=472 For starters. Am sure you will make some good friends here. In the mean time hope you get some better sleep and see you soon. Best, Stephen |

Paper,
About 14yrs ago I was extremely fluent and avid with astral projection. It was almost everday or other that I was able to place myself into the trance/hynogogic state and leave. It was deffinitely an accomplishment that I never thought I would actually achieve. However, projecting for some length of time really burned me out mentally and physicall. So I was in search of a serious rest from it all and knowing one day I will return. I actually had the same problem as you, that I would goto bed, within five minutes I'm in trance, heavy vibrations, and terrorized. The only thing that I could do is welcome the trance and relax while I was in it and then let the vibes, catalyptic state defuse. This wasn't something that I could shake off too easy, it took almost a good 1/2yr. IMO, you have a gift and it runs through your family. The best thing that you could ever do is read much as you can and talk to your family about it. The one's that will support you and not knock you down. I'm sure that in the long run you will find projecting not all that bad once you shed that fear. Hope this helps!! Tvos |

It sounds like you're having unwanted sleep paralysis? The basic solution is to avoid waking up and then going back to sleep at night. You want to ensure that once you go to sleep at night, you stay asleep until the morning.
If you do that, the paralysis episodes will stop. Here are three links that summarize what worked for me to deal with the situation I'm pretty sure you're in: http://www.saltcube.com/out-of-body/cha ... =paralysis http://www.saltcube.com/out-of-body/cha ... ?t=sp-fear http://www.saltcube.com/out-of-body/cha ... .jsp?t=sun |

I'm new and I wasn't sure about were I'd put something like this. I don't want advice on how I can achieve an OBE. I want to know how to stop it.
I'm scared of it and I don't want to do it but I have no choice it sneeks up on me. I never tried to learn how to do it, it just happend. My mom said she was able to do it when she was younger, I though she was crazy. My sister Mary has had problems with it. They started when I was about 12, I just though they were scary dreams. It wasn't until today that I actually looked it up and started to believe that those freaky dreams I have are actually me almost doing an astral projection thingy. It's 2:37 am and I can't go to sleep because I know if I try to sleep I'll just fall into one because I'm thinking about it. How Do I stop it. I've always had weird dreams and stuff like that and a couple of years ago I started to have these dreams that I'd be awake completly aware of my surroundings but I'd be complete paralized but I could hear part of different dreams in my right ear. I'd struggel and I'd fall out of those dreams but if I didn't get up and start moving right away I'd fall back into it. I'd spend maybe 3 hours trying to fully wake up. But it was just a weird dream right? Last month I was in one of those weird dreams, trying to get out, I could hear soneone watching Smallville downstaris but I then started to here a weird voice in my left ear and it kept on getting louder and louder and it scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of me. I managed to wake up fully and I went downstairs and my mom was watching smallville. I told my mom about my dreams and she told me that it happend to my older sister a few times and that it used to happen to her and that she actually managed to astral project. I didn't believe her of course, I don't believe in those types of things. Then two nights ago I was laying in bed cmpletely paralized and terrified because I knew those noises would start. So I tried even harder then ever before to wake up, move, scream, anything just so I wouldn't have to hear those noises. Then I felt like my entire body started to shake slightly. And then my left leg started to relly start to shake. I was terrified I thought I was having a seizure or something. So I tried even harder to move and I strated to feel myself move...up I guess you could say. Then the noises started and I somehow managed to wake myself up. Today me and my little sister were looking at voodoo dolls on the internet for fun when we came across a site on astral projection. She read it to me as I tried to do it and as I was listening she said something about hearing noises. That got my attention. So we read more about it and I figured that that's what's been happening to me, that my mom was actually right. If you know a way that could stop me from falling into those weird dreams thingies it would be great. My sister told me to sleep on my side but I was sleeping on my side the last time it happened, so that was useless advice. |

what does "SP" mean? no im not having problems projecting. in fact i dont really do it much. i was wondering if certain ppl have more of a resistance to sp than others, becuz i only got it once b4 like a month ago after i was going in and out of body like 5 times in row. and i always hear how ppl get sp. the reason i was doing this if u really want to know is becuz im scared to go into the astral fully. i dont know why but i have this feeling saying, "dont do it!". and i talked to someone who is very good with this kind of stuff and he said that somethings are w8ing for me there. so i guess ill have to fite them or something and i think ill hold off on that for a while till im ready. cheers |

how come everyone gets sp but me? i only got it once to my memory and very lightly. it was only about a month ago and i havnt fully projected but i play around with it. i go in and out of my body and stuff. (dont ask why i do this i have my reasons : ) well that time i must of done that about 5 times b4 i finally stopped and i got sp and it was like i was thinking i dont want to try it again and it like forced me out one last time ( i think the sp did it). this was weird to me. do u think that something tried to pull me out or that i have a certain resistance to it? not too long ago too i was drifting off to sleep and i felt a sudden jerking feeling and almost obe just like that. maybe something is trying to pull me out idk.
(srry for going a little off topic.) |

I've noticed that eating carbs/meals an hour before you sleep, sleeping in a cool room(75 deg or less), and avoiding early naps before bed or in the mid of the day, seem to stop me from having projections. Of course, you could be a natural and none of these things will stop your symptoms. But, fear is the worst thing to feel when going through your experiences. Panicking causes more fear, and more bad memories. Try to focus/think/meditate on something good the next time it happens. Maybe your favorite place, person, song.

Sleep paralysis eh? My first bout with that was at like..2-3 years old...and I was scared to hell and back. Sleep medication works, but I'd suggest safer methods before this, but I must say first that what you're experiencing is nothing to be concerned with. What you hear isn't real and can't hurt you, and if it is real in the astral sense, it still can't hurt you, because what you're hearing is scaring you because -it- is afraid of you. What's scarier than a man with a machinegun? A man with a machinegun and an infinite ammo supply, he's invincible, and has superhuman abilities. Oh, and guess what? You're exactly that in the Astral. Astral wildlife fears you so much that it tries to prevent you(scare you &^%$less) from projecting. The true method I found to stopping them is accepting them, changing sleeping positions, or just learn to project, learn why it isn't scary. Also, when stuck in this situation, you feel a presence...that presence is actually YOU...

One way to get used to sleep paraylsis is to be calm. Generally if you stay calm it will end quicker, also, don't try to struggle w/ your entire body, just try to move a finger or toe. Once you do that you will be freed from the paralysis.
Secondly, use some technique to allow for lucid dreaming. Once you achieve lucid dreaming you'll be able to get rid of those bad 'dreams' as well. I recommend keeping a dream journal and reality checks. Use them especially around things common in your dream. Best of luck to you, -Stu |
