Default Ultimate Loyalty: Japanese Dog Refuses to Leave Injured Friend Behind
Even the Japanese dogs are acting with dignity.

These two dogs have captured the world’s attention. Both CNN and the UK Telegraph have both reported that the dogs have been rescued since the footage aired. Both are now receiving veterinary care.

Here‘s an English translation of the camera crew’s words upon discovering the pair (h/t Yahoo): We are in Arahama area. Looks like there is a dog. There is a dog. He looks tired and dirty. He must have been caught in the tsunami. He looks very dirty.

He has a collar. He must be someone’s pet. He has a silver collar. He is shaking. He seems very afraid.

Oh, there is another dog. I wonder if he is dead.

Where?

Right there. There is another dog right next to the one sitting down. He is not moving. I wonder. I wonder if he is alright.

The dog is protecting him.

Yes. He is protecting the dog. That is why he did not want us to approach them. He was trying to keep us at bay.

I can’t watch this. This is a very difficult to watch.

Oh. Look. He is moving. He is alive. I am so happy to see that he is alive.

Yes! Yes! He is alive.

He looks to be weakened. We need to them to be rescued soon. We really want them rescued soon.

Oh good. He’s getting up.

Dogs are the same everywhere .. loyal to the death.

Anyone who leaves his life without ever having a personal relationship with a dog will leave this life missing one of nature's great wonders.

They are telepathic.

My dog's not like that.

When I broke my ankle on the ice last December, he barked incessantly because I wasn't playing and chasing him in the snow anymore.

There I was, laying in the snow, practically sobbing in pain, waiting to get the gumption to haul myself up and get to the house - and there he was irritated that he wasn't getting enough attention.

He's a little self-centered.

We should have named him Glenn Beck.

Agreed. My dogs are loyal like that...to myself and each other. And I do have a 9 year old lab-mix that seems highly acute to her surroundings, myself and her doggy sister. My pup (two years old) went blind from a progressive fatal disease, she still has some sight in the right eye, and has adjusted well. She's on medications and is pretty happy, right now. The older dog rapidly intuited her inability to see, and instinctively is acting as her guide dog.
AMAZING...I didn't do anything.

The worse thing about loving a dog, is losing them.
I'm still having infrequent dreams about my Mastiff I put down early fall.
I wake up, and it takes a few tears and about a half hour to shake it. Then I'm okay.

But, I can't imagine life without dogs, I really can't.

I have a long bout of traveling to do, then I will be getting another pup.

I think that dog's bedding is nicer than mine. In fact, I'm quite sure it is.

Sorry about your dogs. That's terrible. If you get another dog I hope you consider looking at rescues and the pound. There are plenty of pure-breds who need good homes in those places too.

Thank you. I really need to get another dog before the pup dies. My older one will be alone for the first time in 9 years...I just can't do that.

My point, I might not be able to rescue the next one. (older dog is a rescue, pup is not)... because I need to have a small dog with the pup.
But, when she does die, I will be able to rescue and I will.

Good article, did you ever see the dog that sat on it's owners grave?
oh my. I will try and find it.

Is there a prognosis on how long your dog has or could she maybe beat the odds? Maybe you should wait on getting another dog. A new dog around might be stressful to the sick, blind one.

After spending two weeks finding a home for an abandoned Siberian puppy, I have a new-found respect for animal rescues. It is really hard work to find a decent, responsible owner! They are rare. Someone like you would be a godsend to find as an owner because I can tell you take good care of your pets. Fortunately, after speaking with many losers, I found the perfect home/family for the dog. I attribute it to either beginner's luck or divine intervention.

Again, I'm really sorry about your dog and who knows, she might surprise everyone. I certainly hope so.

sorry to hear about your dog ...I myself get quite attached to my pets...I had a cat for 18 years that passed away in 2001 and I still think of that cat every single day...animals play such an important role in our lives it would be hard to even think of a world without pets....

I won't bore you or anyone else with another rendition of my dog saved my life again .. but my dog saved my life. Without him in the house, I would have stayed dead 4 years ago.

I couldn't agree with you more about losing them. It's not like losing a family member, it IS losing a family member. When I lost my Bouv Charlie, I had to take 3 weeks off work. When I lost him, I took my vacation of two weeks to mourn him. Stayed in the house the entire time. Went back to work, still couldn't handle it .. took another week off work.

I have no idea how I'm going to handle losing Tupac. I'll be as lost without him as he would be without me.

Until that happens I'm going to enjoy every moment of one of Natures greatest wonders and greatest symbiotic relationship.

Yup, that's an absolute fact.
