West Ham do to Fulham what Swansea did to them and win 3-0. Carroll was good on his debut and had a hand in the opener for Nolan (they'll do well together as well), and subsequent goals from Reid and Taylor gave West Ham their second win at home.

Spurs are disappointing again as they draw 1-1 at home to Norwich, also having Tom Huddlestone sent off which I think might be frustration for not getting his move away from Spurs.

Swansea and Sunderland share the points in a 2-2, Steven Fletcher scored twice for Sunderland. Same scoreline between Wigan and Stoke.

West Brom end Everton's unbeaten streak and do a nice double over Merseyside clubs with a 2-0 home win over Everton.

And Man City made hard work of beating QPR 3-1. Toure, Tevez and Dzeko scored City's goals which takes them fourth.

What a game at St Mary's between Southampton and Man United. 3-2 in the end to us with a late goal. Southampton scored the first with a header from Ricky Lambert, emphasizing the problems that would go on to haunt us with the height difference. We equalised not long after with a goal from Robin Van Persie, chested down and finished well. In the second half it seemed the game would be ours but Morgan Schneiderling headed Southampton into a 2-1 lead, again via a slip from Evra, on the turf. It seemed then it would be Southampton's day especially when Van Persie fluffed a penalty at 2-1, Pirlo it wasn't. But then in the 85th minute Van Persie made up for it with a close range finish after Rio Ferdinand's deflected header struck the post. Van Persie scored his first ever hat trick for us with a header from a Nani corner (yeah, we scored off a corner, lol). A huge 3 points, even at this stage.

Arsenal also beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield with goals from Podolski and Cazorla, the second after a dreadful error from Reina, who has had a poor week. It's always fun to watch Liverpool fail.

Psyched. Feeling good about this season.

EnubreBense 08-18-2012 10:58 AM

Some awful news to begin the season.

Harry Redknapp and Mick McCarthy have joined Match Of The day as pundits.

Thank fuck La Liga games are now 8pm and 10pm on Saturdays so i can just fast forward the analysis.

Opening day round up (so far)

Arsenal can only draw 0-0 at home to Sunderland. I guess fingers will be pointed at Van Persie not being there but the new signings should have done enough. Disappointing start I'd guess you'd say.

Fulham got off to a great start, beating Norwich 5-0 at home. Swansea did likewise away to QPR.

Reading open with a 1-1 draw at home to Stoke.

Liverpool continue where they left off last season with a 3-0 defeat at West Brom. Agger was sent off to add to the misery. It could have been worse but Shane Long missed a penalty.

West Ham make their return to the Premier League with a 1-0 home win over Aston Villa.

So the current top 4 is

Fulham
Swansea
West Brom
West Ham

Newcastle vs Spurs is the evening game. I hope this will be entertaining.

Rounteetepe 08-18-2012 07:37 PM

0-0's are always disappointing, but Sunderland are a difficult team. I'd rather draw with Sunderland than get trounced by West Brom.

Plaudits deservedly go to Swansea and Fulham. Norwich get my "lol" of the week http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

EnubreBense 08-18-2012 08:07 PM

Yeah it happens now and then. I mean Arsenal had 23 shots to 4, but only 3-2 on target wise. Arsenal will get better over time this season.

EnubreBense 08-18-2012 09:27 PM

Newcastle edge out Spurs 2-1. Deservedly won overall though the game wasn't very good in the first half. Second was much better and Demba Ba gave Newcastle a lead before Jermaine Defoe wiped it out. Ben Arfa scored the winner from the penalty spot.

Very good win for Newcastle.

Rounteetepe 08-18-2012 10:02 PM

Did Modric play? Presume not.

EnubreBense 08-18-2012 10:05 PM

Nah. Didn't even travel.

Rumour has it (Guillem Balague) that Chelsea have actually come in with an offer. But it's likely he'll still go to Real Madrid.

EnubreBense 08-19-2012 08:02 PM

Two games today.

Chelsea went to Wigan and won 2-0, both goals coming in the first six minutes from Ivanovic and a Lampard penalty. In the end Wigan had more chances and shaded possession, but with lacking quality as they do they couldn't take their chances. Chelsea will take it but it wasn't that good a performance by any means.

Man City edge out new boys Southampton 3-2. The match was similar to the match where City won last year's title in that they scored first, went 2-1 down and then won, albeit not as late. Southampton can take a lot from the game, and they'll surely get results. Tevez scored the opener before Lambert equalised in the second half. Steven Davis scored the second before Edin Dzeko scored the equaliser, and Samir Nasri, recently freed from his chains as Arsenal's most hated player, scored the winner. Looking at the performance you couldn't really tell who were the Premier League champions and who were the newcomers, and that's to Southampton's credit. Exciting game though.

I got married this weekend and didn't actually expect to see any games, however we (the family) went out for breakfast on our wedding day to a cute little Dutch place and of all the games....... they were showing Swansea!! I was so surprised that 1. it was even on TV and 2. they had it on there! So I got to watch my beloved team win 5-0 on my wedding day, what a great start to both the season and my marriage! Hah!

EnubreBense 08-20-2012 05:20 PM

Congrats http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

I know someone who lives in Denmark actually, and the main channel there for showing football has now announced it's showing Swansea every week.

Two problems. He doesn't support Swansea and the other is when the games clash with Man United games, he'll have to search on the internet.

But such is the power of Laudrup.

Monday Night Football back tonight, we go to Everton which is always a tricky fixture.

wrewsTear 08-20-2012 06:21 PM

Thank you! That's a nifty bit of info there, and maybe with our apparent new signing Ki Sung Yueng we'll be even more popular in Asia than Cardiff are trying to be http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...illy_nilly.gifhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...smilies/24.gif

Even better day I suppose to hear about Brendan Rodgers opening day woes, lol.

Fellaini is immense tonight. What a player.

EnubreBense 08-20-2012 11:59 PM

Pretty disappointing performance from us. Everton deserved to win overall and if we can't mark the 8 foot tall Fellatio then we had no chance. we had plenty of the ball but lacked the finish. Kagawa was good on the plus side. i'm glad we're signjnig this left back because Patrice Evra should have to retire.

I like all the plastics on Twitter having a go at Van Persie. Judgemental cunts.

Thank you and yes, that was certainly the cherry on top of a perfect day!

What/who is a plastic?

EnubreBense 08-21-2012 02:27 AM

Plastic fans who get on the back of things just because they're popular things to do (such as lambasting Van Persie for moving to a bigger club, celebrating goals scored against Man United - this is also called ABUism, a deadly disease contracted by football fans who have to celebrate goals scored against us because their own team is inadequate- and supporting Chelsea)

I've since watched parts of the game again. We dominated the possession, but we didn't do anything with it. The short passes tonight must have been really high, because that's all we seemed to do, that and cross the ball into the area, which Distin and Jagielka dealed with with the greatest of ease. Kagawa played well, never lost the ball and I really think he and De Gea are the only ones to emerge with huge credit. Scholes and Cleverly were okay, nothing special. The wing play was generally poor, especially from the left. Van Persie can't be judged on that performance, he got into nice areas and his control looked okay, but to have a go at him along with the usual £24m you're having a laugh stuff is not only wrong, it makes you look a bit thick actually. You know, it's not the end of the world that we lost tonight, there's 37 other games to play and we've started with defeats before. I want to grab any United fan who proclaims this as a disaster and shake them to death, because it isn't. It's a defeat, that's it. They happen. Yes it was a bad performance, we're better than that. We'll bounce back from this.
