par 5's are short

par 4's are mostly longish

par 3's are mid range and none short

I would dump the 3 iron

Choose between the chipper and sand wedge as to which club you are worse at

Personally I never have used a sand wedge. Most sand traps her are pretty packed down and not fluffy. You can use a lob or regular wedge on them

good luck

Thanks!

infollafago 05-15-2012 04:29 AM

all that effort and no report on the score

your group must have really sucked http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

gundorana 05-15-2012 04:43 AM

We don't play until June 9th. Sucking early I have covered because I know I will. We established our 4some Sunday.

gundorana 09-07-2012 12:56 AM

Sucking was total. Out of 75 strokes in scramble play I might have hit 10 or 12 decent strokes. The winning team shot a 58.

infollafago 09-07-2012 01:04 AM

don't feel bad

the rest of your team must have sucked also if you guys were 3 over par in a scramblehttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

gundorana 09-07-2012 01:42 AM

The last 5 holes were in a driving rainstorm. Everyhting I carried there was so wet it is still drying out.

gundorana 09-07-2012 01:44 AM

We birdied the first 2 holes. Parred a couple then double bogied a hole. The rest of the way we pretty much played par or bogie ball.

Question for golfers.

I am in no way a golfer but I do own clubs. Over the years through trial & error & gifts I have acquired too many clubs. Presently there are 16 clubs in my bag. I am going to be playing in a tournament. If they hold me to a strict adherence to the rule book 14 is the maximum number of clubs legally in your bag. Which two clubs would you remove?

Driver 10.5 degree
#3 wood 15 degree
#5 wood 18 degree
#7 wood 21 degree
#3 hybrid 18 degree
#4 iron 23 degree
#5 iron 26 degree
#6 iron 30 degree
#7 iron 34 degree
#8 iron 38 degree
#9 iron 42 degree
Pitching Wedge 46 degree
Lofting wedge 50 degree
Sand wedge 55 degree
Chipper club
putter

I know I need the putter and the driver. I like my fairway woods assuming I accidently find the fairway. That basically leaves the irons & short clubs in my opinion. What are your suggestions?

wooclosmercob 09-21-2012 09:12 AM

Holy shit there was someone that thought way harder about that than I did. I can always assume the others golfing with me are better, but I had never thought about the length of the course and their strengths playing in. Very good advice I must say.

#7 and #3 wood hybrid...superfluous

I hit my hybrids better than anything. My irons are not so hot.. i would drop my 4 and 5 as well. I agree with Carly's thinking. I would think about dropping the 8 as well. I actually have the same problem in my bag, but no one cares because I suck too bad. At some point I need to drop 2 or three clubs (can't remember how many I actually have)

You are not helping my cause.. I REALLY want to golf this weekend and Sunday is my best bet.... does golfing on mother's day equal divorce? If I take one of the kids with me I think she will be OK with it... lol
I suppose if you have 20 clubs in your bag if you hit none of them well no one cares. This is a church men's scramble so no one will probably care but occasionally you have to deal with a purist. I average once or twice a year playing because it is so expensive and I do not enjoy it that much.

infollafago 09-21-2012 10:49 AM

Our old league used to have a 3 club day for fun

I would use my 7 wood , 8 iron and wedge

I would drive with the 7 wood and putt with the 8 iron

If I was swinging good I would shoot almost the same as with a full bag

Actually I hit the #7 wood as well as I hit any club. I have even landed the green on a 225 yd par 3 with that club.

I have been playing golf for over 50 years. So you can take it with a grain of salt since you play so infrequently but here are some things that come into play. And based on your playing in a scramble

1. How good are the other 3 in your group?

2. How long is the golf course?

If you are playing a long course and your 3 teammates are not good golfers it will dictate a different approach versus if it was a short course and or there are some long hitters in your group.

If the course is short and you have some strong players then you will be using your short irons. If the guys or gals suck then you will need more of the longer clubs.

So it is a balancing act between what clubs you hit the best and which clubs you will need.

Also whether you can feather a shot. When it is cold out and or I am swinging like crap I will use my 7 wood a lot. I can hit it 120 yards or 180 yards depending upon what I am trying to do.

Having said all that I would probably be looking at removing the sand wedge unless there are a lot of traps and or you are good with a sand wedge in the fairway.

I assume you like the chipper or would not have it in the bag. I never used one as I will use anywhere from a 7 iron to a wedge to chip around the green depending on the situation.

I would then look at removing a 3 iron or 3 wood. Unless you are one of the rare ones that play infrequently that can hit them.

okay then, the six and eight irons are out then.
Why in God's name would you do that....?

I am tragic with hybrids and woods, I like my 3 iron http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif the bladier the better for me lol. And I hit men's clubs so maybe my advice is that much wonkier.
I have a set of men's clubs I have passed down to my wife. At 5'-9" I think she can handle them better than clubs designed for someone 5'-2".

But... that goes against proper golf logic... you are supposed to use the proper club that allows you to swing normal and hit the correct distance. I suck, but I do watch golf shows that tell me how bad I suck too... http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif
yup, only Tiger Woods in the video game....lol

I'd say pick your best (for results) woods/hybrid, and leave out the 4 and 5 irons if you feel proficient with the fairway woods. I'd take my 6, 7, and 9 irons. I'd for sure bring my sand wedge, and pitching wedge.

I think the chipper club would be good too.
Interesting perspective. I like that.
