Default Who Should Win British Sports Personality Of The Year?
The shortlist has been announced. My vote goes for David Haye for taking the world heavyweight title off of that lumbering, terrible, giant boxer. After that I would say Jenson Button. Tom Daley should get third.

Ryan Giggs should win it, to be performing at the top level and producing the top quality performances at his age is remarkable, either him or Jenson Button will win. In truth though, I have no clue who half of them are.

He's had a very good 2009. He doesnt need performance enhancing drugs like the Olympic Guys, or a souped up car like Jenson Button, he goes out there, plays well and can only play once a week nowadays because he's 36, but still he's awesome.

I still cant believe they reward divers.

Unfortunatley he is discounted as to win Sports Personality, you have to have a personality.

Jessica Ennis.

Ryan Giggs would be a joke vote. It's not a "Career Merit" award (something the PFA forgot last year)

Oh what a joke, Ryan Giggs! Dont get me wrong, I think he is and has been a great player but he wouldn't even be in my top 10 footballers of the year, let alone my top 10 sports people. He looked as embarressed as I was when accepting that award.

To be honest, it's a tinpot award. It doesn't mean anything, doesnt add to anythnig in regard to anyone's success. I mean I highly doubt a conversation in the Giggs household in...ooh 25 years..would go like this.

Ryan "Here's that European medal I won in 1999, and here's that premiership I won in 2001"

Grandson "What's that next to the fishbowl Grandad?"

Ryan "Oh, that's the Sports personality award I won in 2009"

Because It reazlly isn't that important. It's almost as if you go for a Job Interview and they ask you what your SAT results were (11 Plus for the older members). It couold be compared to that.

Well

The more they hand it out to people in this way, the less "important" it becomes

Importance? Depends on the sport. And what a sportsman wins. Not important to Giggs as he's won a lot this year anyway. Not important to Andrew Strauss, he's won the ashes. Not important to David Haye, he won the World Title. Not important to Jenson Button, he won the F1 Championship.

I thought last year it had become more intelligent but, no, back to the days of Nigel Mansel winning it over Gary Lineker.

I disagree. I think it IS important to the sportsmen themselves. It's one of those "cliche" awards that people look back on. It has tradition and value attached to it in bucketloads. Sadly, not so much as the years trot by.

How the fuck did Giggs win lol

Hey, I didn't win the champions league either this year, and I reckon if I was there I'd have been just as useful as Giggs was. Can I win sports personality of the year too?

Ryan Giggs winning this award was a disgrace and embarassment. Sports Personality of The Year 2009 should be based on what the sportsperson has achieved during 2009, not during 1989-2009. Giggs made a handful of appearances and scored (correct me if i'm wrong) 3 goals. Sean McAllistar should've been given the award, he has had roughly the same record during 2009.
