As we speculated there will be a run off for third place between Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh in the women's 100m tomorrow. NBC will air it during its primetime broadcast at 8p Eastern.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Jeneba Tarmoh has conceded her spot in the 100 meters rather than race against training partner Allyson Felix.
Tarmoh notified USA Track and Field on Monday of her intention to withdraw. Her agent, Kimberly Holland, already made it known that Tarmoh would not participate in a runoff Monday night to break a third-place tie at the U.S. track trials. In an email sent through her agent to USATF, Tarmoh said: "I understand that with this decision I am no longer running the 100m dash in the Olympic Games and will be an alternate for the event." USATF President Stephanie Hightower said the organization is "disappointed" Tarmoh had a change of heart. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ap-sour...3586--oly.html |

There was a very weird vibe between Felix and Tarmoh when they interviewed them yesterday after deciding to have the run off. Tarmoh looked like she had been crying - it was just weird...so this isn't too shocking to me.

2012 US Olympic Trials
I've seen all of the diving and saw the tie in the women's 100m.
Swimming starts today. NBC is showing it tonight at 8p on NBC SN. |
Thoroughly enjoyed the diving thanks to my fellow Tateurs who guided me to NBC Sports Network for the Monday conclusion at the French. I didn't even realize I had the channel.

I felt so bad for Kristian Ipsen. He did everything but win.
Same for Hayley Ishimatu but I think he body did her in at the end. She looked like she was hurting all over. |

EUGENE-- It took eleven seconds for Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh to cross the finish line in the 100-meter finals on Saturday and 24 hours for meet officials to respond to the unprecedented race finish. Felix and Tarmoh tied for third place -- the final spot on the Olympic team. The dead heat was so rare that a tiebreaker had never been established, even in the event's long history. On Sunday evening, USATF spokeswoman Jill Geer announced the new procedure for breaking a third-place tie in the 100 and any running event in the future for which a U.S. national or Olympic team is selected. Unless one athlete declines her position, the runners will decide between a run-off and a coin toss. If they can't come to an agreement, a run-off will occur. If they don't have a preference? A coin toss. Either way, the decision must be made and a team finalized by the end of the trials on Sunday, July 1. More: http://www.oregonlive.com/trackandfi...t_officia.html |
Shot put throwers make me laugh.
I'm sorry, but they just do. |
I can't imagine any competitor opting for a coin toss. I'm pretty sure we'll see a run off.
Great picture Kirk! |

I could see Paper Rock Scissors. But a coin toss? That's absurd. |
I wanted to go to the swim trials, which are in Omaha, but it's probably too late to get tickets and I don't have transportation anyway.

What's really weird is that one of our daughters lives in Federal Way, WA, where the track and field is being run, and another daughter lives in Omaha. Had we known we could've seen the trials AND visited family. http://forum.talkabouttennis.com/ima...lies/smile.png
