Awesome. So he isn't the greatest, but you have no opinion on who might be better.
I'd argue Jesse Owens but arguments could be made for many on that list... I've also suggested someone should analyze by how dominant you are in your sport so you're not at a disadvantage because of limited opportunity.

Damn you. That's like 3 posts in a row we've said the same thing back-to-back.
I was about to say that

you are just a second slow.

its just ice skating.
A sweep of all distances? Nobody's done anything close to that in any other sport.

In the context that 8 gold medals shouldn't anoint him as "Greatest All-Time Olympian".
Great accomplishment but completely unfair playing field. As I said earlier in the thread, someone like Michael Jordan only had the opportunity to win one gold medal.
pfft.

Jordan has 2 golds in 2 opportunities. come on man!

In the conversation... no idea how he'd compare to other great swimmers in history like Spitz.

You got me thinking... That might be the more fair way.
Maybe make a list of greatest athletes in each sport and then rank them. Then the list wouldn't be all track-and-field and swimmers who had more medal opportunities.
well, he did beat Spitz's seven gold medal record when he tallied eight.

Michael Phelps is overrated? Arguments like these are why I fucking love this joint.

Can't tell if trolling or just very very stupid.

Usain Bolt.
That guy pissed me off by not finishing his race.
I would love to know what his World Record could have been if he didn't quit and hot-dog during the end of it. Talk about dominating though... wow.

So both of you didn't get I was referring to a given Olympics?

He won 2 gold medals and could've had more but chose not to play in anymore Olympics.

Or basketball players should have individual events in addition to their team events... just like swimming.

Like I said, you have absolutely no idea of the scope and diversity of his accomplishment.

So greatest Olympian ever is now limited to one set of Olympics?

Now this is even a dumber argument.
