I was just talking about this...why do men shout for the hits and the women scream...cant you girls just shout please....sounding like a bunch of mountain cats...

Hey our 'best ever team' are doing well. I feel for the fencers, imagine you're talked up that much and then you come away with nothing...its you that looks bad and not the talker-uppers..

The commentators are pi**ing me off when they talk about sabre....get these two 'slap, bang, wallop jokers off and give the most exciting weapon some decent commentary. And and and they are sooooooo negative, writing fencers off at 11/7..
Hey I was 11/3 down to Bowers at some comp and beat him...so never write a fencer off..!!

Not all sabreuses screech. Some of us have a deeper exclamatory sound...

To be fair, I think Zagunis had already counted the Korean girl out too.

Everything except the GB fencing was fantastic today. No GB men's épée!? LBW clearly not fit and Sophie, there for the experience, with a bit to go to be able to play with the grown ups. Embarrassing actually.
Couldn't agree more but lets have this discussion on a seperate thread at the right time. See we will have a new CEO in the future. Someone told me who should know that this is the worst result for GB in the individual results for 16 years if that is the case she must go.

We were told after the Europeans it was too soon. Then told that she would be judged on results in Catania which werent good. Then we had the Europeans in Legano also not great and now an Olympics where only two fencers won their first round fights and one of those was against a fellow Brit.

We must have spent MILLIONS on the performance program over the alst 4 years and what have we got to show for it.

Our athletes deserve more.....

Worst in 16 years..thats actually quite impressive in a schadenfreude kind of way..!! Thats actually pretty hard to do..
So if we do the exact opposite to whats been done we may start to get the best results in 16years..

I'd like to see a bit of money come to south London..DMB territory..!! I'm sure the guy that used to beat people for fun can train a couple of medalists..!!

To be fair to the commentators they aren't showing any kind of weapon favouritism - the foil commentary before I got bored of it was fairly awful too.

My point was that they've been bad at foil as well (I didn't pay any attention to commentary in epee), so the issue isn't only that they need somebody that understands sabre.

Actually thought the commentary was pretty good. Really impressed by Graham Bell's obvious efforts to learn the vocab. Thought refs were splitting more for WS than MS. Personally didn't think that LBW looked affected by injury. She never looks like she's moving much if you're not fencing her... The "flat footed" moments looked more like last minute changes of mind than getting stuck.

As an epeeist I have to say that the Kim - Zagunis fight was one of the most riveting ones I've ever seen.

Which comes from not having been fully up to speed competition wise, really reinforces the issues regarding selection and why she was ahead of form fencers. Certainly did not look as fit as she has been in recent years..

Not impressed with the commentary, Graham Bell is doing an alright job trying his best but i would the expert Fencing Commentator to have abit more knowledge of the fencers. The bbc coverage, they seem to play highlights in the wrong place eg. When the referee says fence for the next hit so we miss a hit. Im happy that there is fencing on tv so many of my friends turned over to watch it but then to ask the question. 'where are the british fencers?' for me to reply. 'knocked out first round'.
