When we got Phoebe, our Bengal, we knew that Tabitha, our 13 year old Manx, would accept her, but we did not know if they would bond. Even though they do not really hang out together all the time, they do play together, and they never get angry with each other. In their own way, they have bonded. This was really evident this morning when I took Tabitha in to the vet to have her nails trimmed. As I left, Phoebe had the most concerned look on her face. When I got back, as Tabitha was eating, Phoebe came up to her and immediately started licking her ears as if to say, "Are you OK sis?"

Hi everyone, sorry I have not been on for a while as I have been rather busy with work and holiday lol.

I have just bought a new kitten, he came back with us yesterday. At the moment he is settling in well in my room and exploring and eating and toileting etc. I have been letting him smell blankets that my other 2 cats have been on and letting my other 2 cats smell his blanket.

Just wanted to know, how long do you think is fine to introduce them? I am keeping him in my room for the time being and when he seems eager to explore other rooms, I will take him out and sit with him in other rooms when the other cats are out.

Any tips at all are much appreciated.

Last night, I put him in a nice box next to my bed and slept with my face hanging off the mattress so he knows I am there. I woke up in the middle of the night and wondered where he was, looked around and the cheeky sod looked rather pleased with himself asleep in front of my head on the bed haha. He stayed sleeping with us for the rest of the night bless him.

When I got Cleo I kept her in one room for about a week till she got settled in with the smells and noises and got used to me and Ben and got used to where the litter tray was, where/when feeding times were etc.. Then I let her have free roam of the house when we were in (lots of hissing from Jack and Sparrow at this point!) but I still kept her on her own when we were going out just so they weren't unsupervised, for another 7-10 days I think it was, and then I just let them mingle. I think it probably took a month for Jack and Sparrow to get used to her, but she was very confident and not at all afraid of them or of Skye.

Aww Congrats! I remember when I brought home my youngest cat I did the same and let her smell the different scent of my eldest cat. I introduced them after a day or two but only when I was present. My eldest cat hissed and didn't like her much but eventually she learned to tolerate her presence. LOL If I were you I would introduce the baby to one cat at a time vs. both at the same time. I think it will be less tramatic that way. Good luck and congrats on your new addition again!

I usually rub a towel on the younger car and put it in the older cat's bed and vice versa so they get used to having that scent around and won't be startled or pissed off when a new cat is introduced. We also each hold a cat and let them sniff each other without being able to attack. We introduce them like this little by little. We had one time where we kept them in separate rooms and they would paw at each other under the door so we knew it was time to let them play.
