Every week or so all the (dog-safe) leftovers in the fridge get thrown into a pot and mixed up for the dogs. They love it.

Yes but only carrots, apples and green beans. She doesn't get any other people food. She likes to sniff everything though that we eat and then goes and lays down. I don't want her to be begging every time we sit down to eat something.

No. Never. I do not like dogs who stare or beg when someone is eating. That's not their place and not the time to interact with me. Or anyone else in the home. Nothing pisses me off more than trying to eat and having a dog sitting there staring at you.

My dog can still get treats of whatever I'm eating without begging or staring or otherwise acting like a jackass.

My dogs are used to getting scraps after dinner but they don't beg or stare either. They lay in their spots on the couch until dinner's over.

Hades sits or lies down right next me and he eats while I eat. I'm constantly hucking stuff in his direction. When we aren't eating at home, it's amazing to see how much I actually feed him off my plate!

Hades will screw off if I tell him, but it doesn't bother me at all to have him by me while he eat. He isn't in my face, my plate or even touching me, he's not a drooler and he makes me feel better about not having to throw food out all the time.

Mine eat just about everything I eat. Not a lot since there are so many, but they all get some. Pongo weakness is pork fried rice. That dog will kill for pork fried rice from China Wok! For his birthday he gets Moo Goo Gai Pan w/ PFR. Meat, veggies, rice, potatoes, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, fruit, milk, icecream, popsicles, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, etc.

Mine also get fast food occasionally. They like McDoubles plain, ice cream cones, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, etc.

I also throw leftover over their kibble along with stuff I buy specifically for them.

They do beg, but will go lay down if I say so. But I'm usually the one teasing them with food and making yummy sounds as I eat it in front of them and then I will randomly toss a piece to the dog that is the farthest away from me and watch them all scramble for it, but it usually goes right into the mouth of the one I tossed it too.

I don't get why people are so bothered by dogs begging I never really cared but I respect that people feel that way and just because a dog gets human food doesn't mean it begs I can tell my dogs to leave a room when im eating and they stay out until I call them back in, buT I generally don't send them out unless I have guests eating

I hope you guys didn't take offense. In my house with my dogs I know how I want things to be. So I enforce the rule from day 1. They'll live. They get treats etc but in a bowl.

With that being said I have a lot of family and friends who don't mind it. And when I go there it doesn't bother me at all. Its their house, not mine. Just like they respect the no scraps rule here

They respect the scrap rules here too. The rules are "they are mine to give to you". Sometimes he gets them, sometimes he doesn't.

No one here is saying that the dogs will be missing out on something for not getting scraps.

I do it because I want to and my dog follows the appropriate rules. If he doesn't follow commands, he gets nothing. If you have different expectations of your dog, that's fine, but I feel like you're trying to imply something here about those that give scraps.

FYI, you don't know how the scraps are given.

I thought this thread was for everyone to post their varying experience with scraps? I apologize if you think my original response had anything to do with anyone here. I didn't even read anyones responses, honestly. But my post was about what works in my home. It wasn't passing judgement on anyone.

So I don't even know who does, or doesn't, do the scraps. My original post was my opinion of scraps in my house. didn't have a thing to do with anyone here.

I also want to be clear, without the fancy formatting. My post that you just quoted was a response strictly to what I quoted. And how I received it.

I also didn't take offense. Just wanted to be clear. I'm sure you can relate.

That was a response for you. Because you seem to think I was somehow posting to insult you. But, no, I didn't read anyones posts. None. And worrying over what others do with their dogs isn't something I tend to do.

So, since I don't want to drown the thread in a side convo (and I have to go to bed lol). I will apologize for making you feel the way I did (as specified in one of your posts) about table scraps and your dog. It wasn't my intention at all.

All my upstairs dogs get people food. They get a small piece of what ever we eat. They stare, we ignore till the end, then they get a small piece. I don't mind dogs staring,I hate dogs drooling, but mine don't drool.
My downstairs dogs, rescue rejects, don't like people food cause they don't ever really get any. So if you offer them some bread they sniff at it then look at you like your very odd. They will eat "people meat".

It annoys the shit out of me when dogs beg. I hate it. My dogs aren't allowed in the kitchen for that reason. But I'm just saying, I've never had a begging problem due to giving scraps.

When I quote someone, it's because I'm responding to them directly. That's how forums work so when I respond to someone within a thread, that is my response to said quoted post.

In any case, like I said, you can run your household however you wish but no one knows if you've read the thread or not before posting except for you. We are not mind readers. Your post SEEMED like it was a response to other members who have no issue giving people food treats to their dogs. I also apologize for the misunderstanding.

At my house, it depends on the dog. I give Mollie bites of baked or grilled chicken, baked fish, green beans and cooked carrots. Bella eats small bites of chicken, fish, green beans, raw or cooked carrots, and banana. Gizzmo gets a plate of spaghetti anytime I cook it (which isn't often), mainly because he is 14 years old, his teeth are falling out, and anything I can get him to eat at this point, I give him. I don't give Zoey or Titus any table food because I have spent 4 hours cleaning crates after I get home from work a few too many times. Cooper gets a few bites of chicken and maybe some meat out of the spaghetti every now and then. Honey (the stray) I gave some spaghetti meat the other night, but other than that, I haven't given her anything else.

However, I am selective to what I give them and when. Mainly, if they do get anything like that, it is on a Friday or Saturday... when I will be home to make sure they get to go out often enough so I don't have anything to clean up when I get off work. For the most part, it isn't very often when they do get bites, usually restricted to the weekends.

That is Veronica.

And she totally gets "all done" and will walk away.

At other times she's pretty intuitive because she can sense when it's okay to bug you for food by being funny and cute and making you laugh. If you are sitting on the couch eating she will sometimes come and sit right next to you and ever so gently reach over and just sniff your mouth or the food as it is going in; gently and persistently, while looking totally pathetically cute...and it generally makes me laugh and she gets a tidbit.

But if you tell her No" and you mean it...she'll go to the end of the couch and lie down and leave you alone.

Right now she's on a bit of a diet again so Grammy is boiling up some veggies for her to have for her "snack" when she has her during the week...because Grammys have to give snacks.
