Default Worms (maggots?!) in antler chews...
Anyone experience this?! I keep the antlers in a plastic bag when they are done being chewed on.
I took them out the other night and there were little (maybe 1/4") worm lookin things on the chewed parts of them!

I boiled some water and stuck the end with the worms on it, in the water. Obviously killed them and gave them back to the dogs as I didn't see anything else on them.

I don't want to freeze them but I may refridgerate them so I don't have to let them "thaw" out so long before giving them to the dogs.

Anyone else ever have this happen? They came from a local pet store. I've been buying antler's for years and never seen this.

They were stored on top of the fridge with no other food around.

Geez...something else to worry about......I'm going to go look at her chewed off one.

I don't put any in plastic once they are opened, just set them up on a shelf on a paper towel.

Perhaps putting them in plastic might be causing this, what is the temp?

We get these nasty little bugs in our bird seed if left in warm plastic containers. We refrigerate or add diatomaceous earth to the seed now.

it wasn't closed tight or anything, the house is never above 74 degrees. Maybe too much humidity in the bag I dunno, they weren't on the other antler though, just one. The AC is usually on though so it's never humid in our house.

Flies will lay their eggs in things like that... not at all uncommon, especially if the bag wasn't entirely sealed
