I really hate seeing this!
|
The highway worries me, I've know plenty of people who's dogs will jump out of the back of a truck or car window but I've also seen dogs that wont.
|
Half dozen times a year I see dogs riding in the bed of trucks. NEVER, that I recall, have I seen one tethered.
Hopefully the dogs are smarter than the truck operators. |
My friend had to have his American Bulldog's tail amputated years ago when she jumped out of the bed of his truck with him doing 70mph. He's lucky that's all she had wrong with her.
This dog above looked like it was going to jump several times, and was pacing constantly from side to side. |
Here in WA state it is illegal to have a dog in the bed of a pickup without it being tethered or crated. I hate to see people with their dogs free in the back of a truck. It's just asking for trouble!

My husband witnessed one day on his way home from work on a busy 70 mph interstate a Bull Terrier jump from the back of a truck and get hit by a car. It really bothered him, especially since that is our daughter's favorite breed of dog. He said he still can't get that image out of his head.
Honestly it always bothers both of us when we see dogs riding in the back of a truck. Lately though we have been seeing more and more that appear to be tethered in and a lot more crated. Of course another thing that bothers us is when you see people/kids riding in the bed of a truck, which is illegal. Yet people still do it. I don't understand it. |
It ALWAYS bothers me too, and I I saw a dog attemtping to jump out the window yesterday when it saw Jasmine on our walks, but the owner quickly rolled up the window.
|
It scares the heck out of me sometimes, the way folks turn with their dogs in the back. I could just see them flying out, but the dog was smart about it thankfully.
It's illegal for them to be untethered here, and at a certain temperature. |
I hate this for more than one reason, when I am walking either of my dogs and see a dog in the bed of a truck NEVER tethered, and it starts to bark at me I am always scared its ganna jump out because I never pass them when they are not stopping at a stoplight/sign it drives me crazy and I am also scared the dog is ganna get hurt.
|
I HATE THIS!! People are so stupid. CRATE CRATE CRATE. Or keep it inside!! And tie the crate down just in case! I dont even like the idea of using a tie because if the dog manages to sort of jump out, he could hang himself to death right there (rope around neck, body hanging out of bed of truck).

So on the one home this evening I was behind a truck that had 3 beautiful dogs in the back. I held my breath the whole time I was behind them because as nervous as they were and the way they were pacing I was sure they were going to jump.

I was jogging with Zoey a few days ago and what do you know, a lifted truck, is passing us ahead, with a rottweiler in the back, unrestrained, with his entire front end, hanging off the side as he is gracing the wind. I just thought WOW what an idiot owner. I saw another guy while driving one time, with 3 ambullies unrestrained, going back and fourth, from side to side...
When I have the convertible down on my mustang, I would be one stupid idiot, to not have Zoey restrained. I make sure she's not able to throw herself out when she sees a dog or cat, by shortening her seat belt so that, half of her head is the only part of her body that can barely extend out the window. The same thing applies when the top is up, her seat belt will be attached at the same length and she's not really one to stick her head out the window, but just enough to smell the air. I do believe we have the same law here, dogs in the back of a pickup, must be crated or restrained at all times, while being in the back of the moving vehicle. |
I ended up behind a truck that passed me with about 3 or 4 huskies free in the back. I couldn't tell if they jumped, were tossed out when they hit a dip in the road or a little of both since they were driving pretty fast. But every one of those dogs came up out the back and got hit by on coming traffic in both directions http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/no2.gif smh,.. that's a day I'll never forget.

I once had bulldog jump out of his owners truck that was moving at about 25 mph, run a hundred yards and attack my dog that I had on leash while I was running in a park. Broke them up quick and no damage done. I also had my dog jump out of my truck while moving and break his hip. Was a long time ago and I learned my lesson. My dogs are alway crated now when in the car. In Florida, it's legal to put a dog in the bed of a truck is it's tethered. Still, I wouldn't do it.

dang Bubblz Calhoun, poor dogs http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png
I just the other day saw some idiots in Vincennes with 2 looked like hunting stock labs in the back of a truck that pulled into gamestop when I was leaving (yes I am a nerd) and the passenger stood with the dogs since they were not only unrestrained, they didn't even have collars on so knowing the area they probably were not given any shots ever...can't fix stupid I guess, at least the idiot passenger stood with them so they couldn't jump out |
People suck... thats all i can say... LOL
