I took both of my dogs swimming today (I have a pit bull and an aussie shepherd). My aussie loves swimming and she goes all over the place and looks super happy. On the other hand my big boy is somewhat scared of the water but he swims like a champ. He is super protective of my aussie and really loyal. He follows me every where and wants to be with me all the time. I can't tell if he is just following me and my aussie as we work our way down the creek or if he likes swimming somewhat. I don't have to force him in or drag him in, he does it willingly. Does your dog like to swim, do you have to fight with them or do they just follow you and/or the other pups?

My dogs are big swimmers.
Mexico, my rezmutt, has always loved to swim. Water fetching or just lounging around in the water. Umah, my GSD, isn't a huge crazy swimmer but she will fetch toys. Loves to play in the shallow water. Marsha, my chihuahua/shar pei, never did like to go deeper than chest level but this last time we went she actually swam out after a toy several times. I was shocked, lol. Miss Kitty, my pit bull mix, loves to water fetch and play in shallow water. Conway, my boxer/pit bull/cartoon character is INSANE about water. He will swim just to swim, no help from me needed. No toys, either. |

Goren LOVES water (great dane/ast mutt mix, 65lbs and all legs...kinda funny) if he sees a lake you better dig in because he doesn't pull often but rain, snow, sleet or shine, he wants in that water...I think you know those dogs that are found in frozen rivers and need to be rescued but keep swimming away from the rescuer...I think that would be him if he had the chance lol
funny thing about Goren is though...he hates the bath/shower and HATES the hose, he loves his kiddy pool or any body of water Logan (am. bully 1 year old)...I donno, he hasn't had the chance |

All three of my APBTs swim, to different extents.
Ruger will get into any available body of water at any time for any reason. Jolene will fetch toys from the pool, but doesn't care about natural bodies of water. Zealand will fetch toys from any body of water. My Saluki doesn't swim, but he likes to hang out by the pool and watch the other dogs. My Magyar Agar is figuring out that I really am not going to let her drown, and that swimming might actually be fun! lol |

I have a pit/shep/something mix who has always been crazy about swimming. Lab mix that likes to swim calmly. Had a APBT that died of cancer last year. Rescued him when he was 1 yrs old. The first time he followed my other dogs into the river he jumped in and sank like a rock before popping up a few seconds later. He learned to love to swim more than all of them. He never could keep up with the others but held his own. Have a 9 month old staffy who started of slow but is also crazy about swimming now. Has to put more effort into it than the others but does real well. Best work out ever
