I adopted him about 6-7 months ago. He is a 5 year old male, mostly white, with one bright blue eye and one that is half brown and half blue. Does anyone know what would make this occur? He has no hearing or sight problems at all. I know blue eyes is a "fault" when it comes to showing, but I'm not worried about that because he's just my little buddy

Blue eyes are a lack of pigment. Dogs with hearing or sight issues usually have more lack of pigment than in just the eyes, caused by the merle gene. In breeds that don't carry merle, it's a recessive trait that can occur in any dog regardless of coat colour... but it IS most common in dogs with a lot of white.

wha? OP, I have a dog that has discolored eyes. One eye is Blue and Amber and the other eye is Amber with lighter spots in it. I was seeking out information on the merle gene because I was too told thats what it was. But I was promptly corrected that it can also be caused by an excessive white gene. |

Whats not to understand?? and what type person am I,just wondering? There is no general pit bull term there is only ONE pit bull and it's the APBT. Not that bs you posted about it being a mix of breeds. And ya no comment on the type of person you are I'm not for getting banned because of some noob. |

Just because people buy or sell dogs as pit bulls doesn't mean they're right. "Pit bull" is not a blanket term to encompass various bull and mastiff breeds. It's not a term for any dog with short hair and a blocky head. "Pit bull" is a nickname for 1 breed and only 1 breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier.
It's similar to calling a Labrador Retriever a "lab". It doesn't change the breed, it just shortens the name. |

First of all, the American Staffordshire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier are not the same breed anymore; even though they do share the same dual registry name in the UKC. But these two breeds are so far apart breeding them produces mutts, not APBTs or Am staffs. Breedings of the Am staff and the APBT are called pitterstaffs. A lot of people will argue against this, but look at them. They are no longer the same breeds; even though at one point they were.
And I don't care about your degrees. Still doesn't give you right to spew out BS. |
