LovePup I’m not an idiot I understand how the law works. Unfortunately we will always live in a world where certain dogs are discriminated against. I know this.

Yay small victories!
THIS! Yes small victories are all I can ask for. One step forward in much better than one step backwards.

Where did I say you where an Idiot? Yes it is a step in the right direction. But I wish they could take it farther and stop shelters from stopping a breed of dog from being adopted or being PTS just because of its breed.

Its been like that for a long time LOL. I don't know when it went into effect I just know they cannot have BSL there. Still doesn't stop the HSUS from Euthanizing Pit bulls and not adopting them out. I really hate the Houston ASPCA. I wont even watch their show.
Ive seen them try to nurse put bulls back to health

^^; They do not adopt out Pit Bulls because they are too much of a liability. You can look into it. Just another reason why i hate HSUS. They might show on their tv show that they are taken care of them. But they are eventually PTS and never adopted out. Not in Houston at least.

Federal laws over-ride state laws, in most cases. Therefore, logically state laws over-ride municipalities and counties. Unfortunately some states have so many loop holes no one can keep them straight.

Where did I say you said I was an idiot?

On to the more important issue. Laws will never be able to stop shelters from putting dogs down some ass hat could just make up a story on why the dog isn't stable or what ever. It would be a near impossible task.

Also I do have to give a lot of the shelters in my area of MA credit on how many dogs including pit bull types are adopted or placed into rescues.

Also many of the other laws in this bill are just as great. No dogs to be adopted out before spay or neuter no has chambers and training for ACOs.

Sorry to pop your bubble but Va already had a law in place that makes it impossible to ban a certain breed of dog or any form of BSL, its called Dillons Rule and not only works for dogs but other things as well, there are a few other states that use Dillons Rule.

And in a lot of cases it's not discrimination by shelter staff so much as it is by adopters. Most APBT that get put down in shelters here are either sick, temperamentally unstable, so they have simply been at the shelter more than 3-4 days, the shelter needs to euth to make room, and the staff knows that other breeds have a better chance of getting adopted. Cept in Detroit. The city AC there are still assholes and will not adopt out Pit Bulls at all or even turn them over to rescues.

I'm so glad to see this passed. Even if it's not the first of it's kind lol. I'm assuming that places that have BSL already are just going to be grandfathered in like Dade County down in Florida. I'm just glad that my town won't be able to make new breed specific laws. They can't even enforce the license and leash laws already in place so it wasn't something I was too worried but still.

Yay!! It's a step in the right direction. I was reading from this other site about how Canada decided on teaching about good dog responsibility and their bite count went down while ours went up even w/ BSL.

yay that is fantastic (yea my state has it in the state constitution but some cities can go around it) I kinda think of BSL as a roulette wheel, if falls on one town or one state but gets lifted off another state or town...
