I adopted a dog from Craigslist awhile back, and she likes to dump her food out. I have never seen anything like it. At first I thought it may be because she didn’t want to share a bowl with my other dog, so I made sure their food was separated. That didn’t work, she still dumped the food out. So, I tried various types of bowls and even a flat cookie sheet to see if that would help, but she still does it.

It is actually weird how she does it, because after she scatters the dog food on the floor, she uses her nose to slide it all back together in a nice neat pile on the floor. She makes a mess, but she cleans it up! Has anyone ever seen a dog do this?

I haven't seen a dog do this. However, I have seen our cats do exactly the same. They prefer not to eat the food in the bowl. They take as much as they can out, then stand there munching it down.

Does she eat it or not? My Shih Tzu has a somewhat similar attitude as your dog. She would pick out the food and bring it in one corner. Then, she would go back to her bowl and pick another one to bring it in the corner. Once she's done, she would go to that corner and eat it- even when she eats her meals alone (without any pack intrusion).

I think it's one of your dog's quirks. As long as she eats it and it doesn't get dumped on somewhere unsanitary, I think you can leave her be in the mean time. After all, she does clean it up.
