My cat knows what I mean when I say "tinny tin tin". Means she is gonna be fed (tinned food). The other cats food we say "tweeties" (started off sweeties then treaties then went to tweeties) and she knows she will get getting some of her dried food. They know, "get down!" and "out!" too. My greedy cat knows when you have got a tin out of the cupboard, and can hear it open from upstairs and she is in the kitchen within seconds. Does anyone else's cats know what you say?

I'm pretty sure mine understand far more than they let one and just ignore me. Even the slightest rustle of a treat packet and Cleo is there though.

Jens greedy one is very very sneaky. Actually both are.
But the greedy one knows when food is out literally the second it is out.
But she'll also walk around the house keeping a check on who is in and where everyone is.
Sometimes she's been caught sneaking off upstairs for a quick toilet (naughty naughty) but mainly it's to check whos in the kitchen or whos likely to go into the kitchen, to see if she can sneak some food off the side.

the other makes out she's not interested in something, but eventually goes back to it as she really is :P

Xena definatly knows when she's doing something she shouldn't be doing, and she always answers back when she's spoken to. As with any cat though any understanding is very much on her terms!

Drake knows alot of words, more than he lets on!
If I say no then he does his "buuuut muuuuum" meow
If I say he's not allowed out he swears at me.
He can hear things russtleing from miles and normalls comes when he's called, except when he doesn't want to!

They are pretty smart creatures aren't they

Oh yes lol! Morgan le Faye knows 'down', 'off', and 'no'. She does respond when I talk to her tho mostly its her meowing at me and me not understanding what she's on about lol. She knows when she's done something wrong and she knows as she's doing it that its wrong but that doesn't stop her. She also responds to the change in tone of my voice. Very interesting.

I think my cat understand words and then other times understand word association. For instance if I say "sit Dusty sit" She'll sit. But if I say time to go "nite nite" she also understands it to mean lay down or sits. If I say "yumyum time" she knows it's time to eat and will come running. Other times I don't even need to say anything. If I make a motion of scratching with my hand she comes running because she knows she's going to get scratched and petted. My kitty is sweet and smart.

Our cats recognise their own names, but only if you say it in the right way.
For Max, our male Maine Coon, you have to give a short, sharp "Max!", and normally he takes notice, but I only ever call him that way if he's being naughty!
As for Tammy, our female Maine Coon, you have to call her in a smooth way, with an upward inflection. Even then sometimes she just tilts her ear at you, but won't look, as if she's just ignoring you.
They both also know "Dindins!" means dinner, if you say that, they both make a beeline for their food bowls!

My cats know their names. If I call for them they will run over thinking I have something for them. It is really funny because I will call one and he runs in then he leaves and I call the other and she runs in looking for a treat. They are so funny.

My cat Tabitha does understand certain words, especially her other name, Stumpy, which she grew up with. It is a lousy name, but it is the name she is used to being called. So, she still to this day answers to Stumpy, and does not answer to Tabitha. She also understands RIDE, for stroller rides, and TREAT.

I think my cat knows exactly what I am saying. Especially when I mention her food. She also comes when I call her by her name. She is a snob at times, but cats do what they want.

Jens cats know "Mousey" Etc. But I think that's more the tone of voice than any words. I'll have to try it out. For example if I say "Jenny" In the same tone, The cat gets excited as if you said mousey.

She's at least starting to know 'NO!' and knows 'gently' when she's biting.
