Default Outdoor cats
I am not quite sure why people trust their cat to never roam and get lost when they let their cats outside. I feel that a cat is like a child. I would never let my cat outside for any reason. Instead, I make sure they have plenty of window views, and I give them rides in pet strollers two or three times a week. I also set aside time during my day to play with them.

I agree to some extent. My cat is an indoor only cat at all times, but I too, raise the windows around the house and make sure she's got plenty of fresh air and room to chill on the window sill to look out the window if she wants. I don't put her in stroller or anything like that because she's a cat. I may spoil her sometimes, but I don't treat her like a kid. I think that's a bit over the top, BUT that's just me.

When I was growing up we had cats outdoors. My parents were big on the no pets in the house rules. They would wander off from time to time especially the boy cat. They always came back home though. Ideally I wouldn't want cats outside, I agree that they are much safer in a house. I remember worrying that they wouldn't get hurt from a car, or other animal all the time when they would take off.

We are currently having an issue with our kitten at the moment.
Jens mum wants the kitten to start experiencing outside. Where as Jen panics thinking the kitten will just do a runner and we'll have trouble getting her back.
The kitten has since come out in the garden three times but not left more than a few meters away from the back door. The slightest sign of trouble and she's back in the door.

I wouldn't "let" a cat outdoors, but I have had outdoor cats before. The difference is....they started as outdoor cats. They were strays that decided to set up home at my place and I'll feed them, etc. I would feel wrong making them stay indoors instead when they've been outside all their lives.

The thought of taking your cats in a stroller may seem over the top, but if you saw the look on my cats' faces when daddy gets the strollers ready for use, and if you saw them jump into the strollers like a dog does into a car, and if you saw them sit at attention facing forward the whole time while only moving their heads left and right so they do not miss seeing or hearing anything, you may not change your mind on giving them rides, but you may change your mind about it being over the top. Oh, and I must mention that my older cat, Tabitha will jump back into the stroller if I do not fold it up in time after her ride. She did that once and when I tried to pull her out, she wined. I let her stay in the stroller, but when she realized that the ride she got was the only one she was getting that night, she jumped down and went into a corner and pouted until I petted her to make her feel better. I will admit, however, that not all cats are as smart as my two cats. Tabitha is a Manx, and Phoebe is a Bengal. Those are two very smart breeds of cats.
