I had exactly same problem with my cat.
But, one day, I had a glass of water on the table that I forgot to drink, and I saw my cat sniffing and starting to drink my water from that glass.
Since then, I kept that glass only for my cat, and he is drinking daily from there.
You can try it also : take a glass, go in front of your cat and drink from it, fill it back, and give it to your cat to sniff. I sure she will use that glass every day.
Some cats have more personality and they prefer a glass instead of those aluminium bowls
What a cool idea! I'll try that as well. I'm starting to think she's trying to get my attention - as if she doesn't get enough as it is! - as she's only been doing this since I brought Loki home in November last year. Mighty suspicious me thinks.

Default Advice needed - cat not drinking water
Hi all,

I wonder if anybody has had this and what it might mean. For a couple of months I've noticed my cat going to her water bowl, sniffing it and walking away. Now, she drinks water from the tap and she is fond of bath/shower water for some reason (she gets in the bath after I've had a shower/bath and drinks any water left near the plug hole) but not water from her bowl. So I've got her a new stainless steel bowl (her old one was plastic) but the same thing is happening. As Morgan's on dry food its important that she gets enough fluid in a day so I've put her on adult cat milk now and she loves that. But why is she avoiding water in her bowl, any ideas?

My cat also prefers water from the tap. I think its because its a flowing source of fresh water. The water in her bowl is a stagnant source and if she can get it somewhere else, she will. That's just my opinion though.

Try a cat fountain. Some of my cats wouldn't drink from a bowl but since I bought the cat fountain they'll happily drink from it. It keeps the water flowing so it's a bit more appealing to them.

My cat does this from time to time but we have a waterbowl inside next to her food and a water bowl outside on the step and sometimes she will go to the bowl inside, turn her nose up and go to the bowl outside even though its the same water. If your cat is an outdoors cat then try having a bowl outside too. It could be something as simple as associating outside waterbowl with fresh water or something Good luck with it too

Hi Furie, have you tried a ceramic or glass bowl? often cats will not drink out of stainless steel or plastic because apparently the water can get tainted due to the metal; or plastic chemicals. I know mine prefer ceramic to anything else except the dog or toilet bowl yeuk! Some cats prefer running water so a fountain might work but not got round to trying that yet.

That's a good idea, thank you.

Thanks to everyone for your kind advice.

My friend discovered Morgan drinking out of the water bowl on my altar (glass bowl) but since I've removed that she's been drinking out of her normal water bowl. I think I may change them for ceramic or glass anyway as she's also getting a bit funny with her food bowl now.

Cats, who'd have'em lol!

Sometimes my cats get a bit fussy like that, but then I wonder if it's just to get my attention.
