My Father had a 3 legged lab once. He got around just fine and could run amazingly fast, until he got old and started to suffer with his hips. He then seemed to have difficulty because he needed to support his weight on his one remaining fron leg.

I wouldn't let that put you off though. The dog had a great life and was no bother at all.

It's a bit difficult but don't let that put you off. My dog just recently became semi-paralyzed and it's a lot harder to take care of her now because she can't do a lot of things by herself anymore. I have to carry her outside to do her business and such and it was a lot of work at first but I've adapted. My dog is a fighter and she doesn't let her disability get to her. She's still full of energy and it seems like she doesn't even realize her own handicap sometimes (she'll still attempt to chase after other animals that are invading her territory and things like that).

One of my friends has a three legged dog and he is very agile and doesn't seem to need any special treatment.

Default Taking on a disabled dog
Has anyone had any experienced with a disabled dog.

I am thinking about rehoming another dog - and he only has three legs but he seems quite mobile. He is a 3 year old border collie cross.

You'd be surprised just how well they manage on three legs. I have a cat with three legs and he is the most active of all of them. The only time they're likely to struggle is if they are a heavy breed or overweight. Although I know a dotty who has had her keg amputated and she's fine.

I can't help much but I think it's great that you would think about giving a disabled dog a new home. Is it at a shelter? Can I ask what happened to him?

I had seen some dogs with three legs and as long as they have owners who loves them, they do not mind being disabled.
They can still manage to "act" normal like any other dogs and can still be very active and loving.
