Idiot Logic, don't you agree?
 

This morning my husband and I took Slayer with us to go grab coffee on the patio of the cafe across the street. While there a lady approached and asked to pet our "pit bull". I said, sure, she is a mix though, I prefer not to call her a pit bull because I can't be sure.

The lady abruptly stops petting her and tells me that I am not doing the breed any good if I don't tell people Slayer is a pit bull because she is "so well behaved". I should apparently be proud of my dog not try and hide what she is...umm..ok?

WTH is she thinking??? I mean..why lie to people or call her something I have no proof of? I call her a pit mix..or a bull+terrier type dog.

she misunderstood your reason for not saying your dog is a pit. She thought you were ashamed of the fact she may be part pit, not that you legitimately didn't want to apply any label to her at all, because you don't know her heritage.

That has to be it gatorpit. I mean, why on earth else would it be such a huge deal? I wouldn't bring a dog I am ashamed of out for breakfast in public. lol

I don't think I understand the comment, lol..what do you mean it looked/acted like Slayer? Do you mean she looks scary or acts mean? Or the opposite lol. I am not asking to be an arse, genuinely confused.

I thought that might have been it..but I also read it the other way too. And I figured id just ask lol. I know her well enough that I never take offense to something unless I know what is being said.

I frequently just smile and nod my head yes and let people pet my "Texas red nose".

Yesterday some guy in the pet store asked to pet my "texas red nose" while telling me that he has 2 "texas red noses" at home and an "all american".

I just smiled and said "How nice"; and went about my business. I just don't have the energy. (I know, that's bad, huh?)

Naw..to each their own! I just err on the side of caution most times.

Exactly. That person will go home and proclaim, "I saw the nicest Pit Bull today". No harm done and only good FOR THE BREED.

She certainly looks enough like a Pit Bull.

This whole "can't identify a breed" gets taken a bit too far at times.

When Nitro was 2 months old, we were on a walk in a high traffic (people shopping not cars) area and everyone was making a big deal out of him and petting him (which was my reason for walking there to help socialize him). One lady and her son stopped and asked could they pet my puppy. I said sure. He said there politely as the little boy pet him and the mother said, "he is so calm and well behaved! What kind of dog is he?" I replied, "Pit bull/chow mix". Her eyes popped out and she said "PIT BULL???" and grabbed her son's hand and pulled him away. I just looked at her with my mouth open because I was in shock.. I wish I was "quick on my feet" and had a good come-back but I was dumbfounded... I used to get the same response from people when I had Spike (R.I.P) but that was when he was an adult... I couldn't believe someone reacted that way to a 10 week old puppy... people are idiots.. lol .. Honestly I was more expecting someone to say "CHOW???" lol j/k
