I've loved Kady's Sako for awhile, and after reading many of her posts about his breeder I felt that she was the real deal. I did some independent research on her dogs, her bloodlines, and came to the conclusion that I wanted one of her puppies. Consequently, I now have a deposit on the second pick female of the litter. I am super stoked because she only lives about 3.5 hours away from me, so we are planning on meeting up soon, and I will get to meet most of the dogs.
Hehe.. a Sako half sister! Soon the forum will be flooded with little Sako relatives. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

He does haha. He met her back in June for the first time and fell in love. He still has no clue what females "are" though.. not that I'm complaining!

If he passes his health testing in Nov., gets closer to finishing his AKC CH, and I find the right bitch, then yes http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Yes, I will have a Sako half sister http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I'm pretty stoked about it...I've been planning and researching for awhile, and I am really looking forward to whatever opportunities may open up. I have little to no experience when it comes to showing or sports. I worked my current dog hard when he was a youngster, but he has no aptitude for anything other than hunting. That's his strength and we have spent much leisure time in the woods and fields. He would have been a great SAR dog if I would have had the knowledge. He has his CGC and TT, but beyond that I have rarely been in the ring as a competitor (unless you count horses).

I really hope this pup is a competitor, or at least likes some things my current dog hates. Lol. Henry has no ball drive and won't swim unless he's dying of heatstroke. I would love to do weightpull, dock diving, lure coursing, or obed with my future pup. Showing in the conformation ring would be icing on the cake.

Hell, even if I wind up with a lazy pup, I can guarantee you I will be over the moon if it will fetch a flippin ball, chase a flirt pole, or swim in the lake with me. Lol.

I'm kind of opposite. I'm used to a SUPER drivey dog and I'll expect the next one to be too. I would be happy with less drive, but not a lazy dog. Baloo was always my jogging buddy and I tried going for a jog with my mom's dog and it was terrible. This dog is only about a year old and it's a HERDING dog. But I had to just about drag him the whole way. It was terrible. I got a better workout though! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif I told the fiance right then that I absolutely do not want a dog that doesn't enjoy running.

I wouldn't mind a lazyish dog as long as I had another dog that wasn't haha. I just don't want to spend a lot of time and money on a lazy dog, you know? But as long as it had something I could use. Like crazy ball drive or frisbee drive or prey drive. It doesn't have to have all of it but just something I can work with. haha

I've sent emails so far to two AmStaff kennels and a Staffie kennel. I'm eagerly awaiting responses. All of them are fairly local, so I'm excited to hopefully attend some shows they'll be going to.

I said that I would be VERY interested in a Jama/Cash litter if that ever happens. I love the look of Jama and Cash just seems like such an all-around great dog.

...and I emailed the kennel Jama came from. I had already looked into that kennel before I saw Jama. obsessive much? Nah.

Also, the Staffie kennel I emailed had great looking dogs, but I didn't see a lot of sports or anything. But I imagine sports are limited for the smaller dogs.

Jama's breeder is awesome! And Jama's a gorgeous girl.. SO goofy and happy, happy, happy too!

If you want a dog that can be lazy AND drivey, I'd say get a Doberman http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/wink.png But I'm biased!

I've seen some nice AmStaff breeders but I couldn't recall the names off them off the top of my head, but I'm sure some other folks here can.

agrismhig 07-30-2012 12:56 AM

Oh btw - I meant to say this in my last post. Sako is the best of both worlds when it comes to drive. He can go, go, go when you want him to, but he is also content to sleep most of the day in the house if it's raining, too hot to do anything, etc. I love that about him because I don't think I could deal with a dog that just couldn't chill out it the house. That'd drive me nuts.

GueseVekdet 07-30-2012 01:02 AM

You could look into UKC APBTs or pitterstaffs too.

evammaUselp 07-30-2012 02:38 AM

As I was going through so many breeders and that ADBA UKC AKC comparison, I was thinking like something right in the middle would be just what I want! haha! I think some people are making APBT too scrawny, but a lot of ASTs look too bulky to me! But I also understand that ASTs and APBTs both have certain looks for the show ring. A leaner AST and a chunkier APBT would look better to me. haha but that's just my opinion.

But Sako's temperament sounds great. That was something that took Baloo a LONG time to learn. That there's play time and there's chill time. And it'd be great if that would be something I could expect from a dog.

I've always admired Dobes from afar, especially the natural eared ones like Bonnie! Very sweet faces. But the fiance doesn't want a dog bigger than an AmStaff. His idea is that we should never have a dog one of us can't easily pick up and carry if something were to happen. Kind of a random thing to worry about, but I agree. He might be able to pick up a Dobe, but I sure couldn't! haha

GueseVekdet 07-30-2012 02:47 AM

There are lots of ADBA dogs who are not too scrawny, and a fair amount of UKC dogs who are not too bulky, you just have to talk to the right people to find the kind of dog you want http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

I agree, that's the ONLY thing I don't love about Dobes, and Greyhounds too... if only they came in 40lb versions!!

Yeah I know.. Do you know of any in the area? haha. I want proof that they will have the drive to do sports and a lot of the ones I like the look of, don't really do sports. All the ADBA dogs do weight pull, but I want to be able to go to AKC events and all that jazz. Even though I don't quite know how that all works, but you have to either have papers or register as a "mix dog" or something, right?

You're correct, lots of Amstaff breeders breed the BIG Amstaffs. But there are those that are still breeding the "old school" ones http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

From what I've heard, most of Sako's litter mates have similar temperaments to him. He's the only one with the insane ball drive though http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif
