Peaches was spotted by my wife getting ready to bury a "tid bit" she found in the woods. (She likes to "ripen" carrion and save it to roll in later. Phewwww!)Anyway, it turns out she was getting ready to bury a baby Opossum. And the 'possum had apparently been only been playing dead. We rescued it and kept it in a box for observation for a day then released it in one of our wet coves outside the dog boundary. It was cute as the dickens:

That's so sweet! I just love possums. I think they're adorable. =)
I had the same thing happen once with a decidedly less cute critter. One of my sister's hamsters got out of its cage and Mila snagged it up. I almost didn't know she had it in her mouth except that she was acting funny and her cheek was a little puffy. I had to pry her mouth open to get the poor thing out and it was sopping wet. And I hate hamsters. I'm near terrified of them. (I've always owned rats, which I've found are considerably more affectionate and far less prone to sinking their teeth into my fingers. Haha.) |
