Holy Crap! Someone ate their wheaties!
Okay, so my pup turns 15 weeks old tomorrow! I'm not exactly sure his breed but I believe him to be an Am. Staff x great dane x Plott hound mix.
So I'm posting bc I went to his first shot appointment at 8 weeks and he was 7 pounds. Three weeks later he weighs 15 pounds at 11 weeks. Well I took him for his last set of shots at 14 weeks and he weighs 34!!!!! Pounds! 19 pounds in 3 weeks. The vet says he's healthy and his muscle tone and joints are great and his growth rate is great but has anyone had their dog grow that much! We were having issues with allergies so we were switched dog foods. He was on purina puppy chow when we got him which is shit. So we switched to Bil jac large breed puppy formula. And then at the last visit was when we were talking about allergies and I switched him to Natures Made grain free with salmon, sweet potatos, and pumpkin thinking he has a grain allergy. And that's when wam bam Damn near 20 pounds lol. Just curious about your experiences! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/attachme...393692&thumb=1http://www.pitbull-chat.com/attachme...393684&thumb=1 |
Sounds about right.
Frankie was about 16lbs when I got her at 11 weeks. A month later she was 32lbs. Two weeks after that she was 38lbs. I've been weighing her monthly since then 5 months 43.5lbs 6 months 47lbs 7 months 53.5lbs 8 months 55lbs 9 months 60lbs 10 months 64 lbs 11 months 61 lbs (she lost weight here because she has a tooth pulled and stopped going to work with me because of the heat, she got a lot of treats at work) |
Lol okay good to know. All I could think is if he keeps growing at this rate I'm going to have a way bigger dog then I originally planned lol. I want to be prepared.

http://www.pitbull-chat.com/attachme...489645&thumb=1I finally got him to stand to the side!

Gosh, he sure is a looker!
|
Why thank you!

WOW! impressive!
on another forum someone took pictures of there great dane puppys growth from 8 weeks upward into adult hood week by week and holy cow! the growth is incredible!! and it always made me wonder "is growing that quickly ever painful to a dog?" |

He doesn't seem in pain but I just remember having growth spurts with horrible pain so I hope he's not. |
Renee managed to hit 38 pounds when she went in for her final puppy shots at 4 months old. She'd gained 26 pounds in the 8 weeks since I got her. I thought she was going to be some kind of freakishly huge dog, which bent my brain and she was bred from some nice, normal, APBT's. I took her in for her spay at 14 months old and she only weighed 43 pounds. Some dogs have a growth spurt and then grow steady, some dogs grow steady, and some seem to have a growth spurt and then almost stop. Ya never know what you'll end up with until they get there http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Cute dog! I, too, am familiar with strong growth spurts.

He's looking great and what a cute pup!
Watching our great dane pup grow is pretty amazing. We got him at 7.5 weeks and he was small at just under 10#. He just turned 6 months old and was 80#. He's been averaging about 20# a month. Of course, Boxie's dad is 160# so I'm hoping for him to reach close to that size. |
Holy moley! Lol Im hoping for the 70 ish range just bc i primarily walk him lol. Bit as long as he's healthy ill be happy. And. That's crazy 80 at 6 months lol. And thank you!
|
Just start working with him now on walking nicely and he will be wonderful when he's older!
yeah, I was amazed at the growth rate of great danes. I mean, I KNEW cause I'd read how fast they grow but it's hard to believe that this little puppy at 8 weeks: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...3/IMG_5461.jpg Would be this big at 6 months: http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...boxieShirt.jpg |
Holy Jesus! Lol I'm hoping he takes the am staff weight and height . Cause that's what I was told I was getting but I see more and more great dane daily http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png
