What does it matter to you?

I was talking to somebody about my dogs. I was telling them about how I didn't leave high value items (food, toys etc) lying on the floor to keep a fight from breaking out over them. I inform them that this is something I don't mind and don't care about it, it doesn't bother me.

They kinda scoff at that, and precede to tell me that I should 'get rid' of my dogs and get dogs I don't need to pay so much attention to, or sacrifice so much for.

Really?? I just told you that I DON'T care that I have to do this, and that I understand that it's not for everyone. So why the hell would you say that?

Aside from that, where the hell would my dogs go? How do you propose that I "get rid" of them?

I hate people.

bestonlinepharmasy2 07-14-2012 05:55 AM

Those people sound like douche bags. I would discontinue further conversation. Like its their business what you spend your time doing (because it takes SO much time picking up dog toys)...

Oberjej 07-14-2012 05:55 AM

I know what you mean. I got told that people shouldn't own pit bulls because they are too much effort. "Who would want to own a dog that could become dog aggressive?" or "Can't be around cats?"
People are just so ignorant, and the problem is everyone wants the easy way out. Always.

ThisIsOK 07-14-2012 06:00 AM

Who likes a messy house anyway? I don't like dog toys or food scattered everywhere, wouldn't matter what kind of dogs I owned. If that is how they want to live, I'm ok with that, but I'll be damned if someone is going to tell me how to live in my own house.

I hate people too.

Marc Spilkintin 07-14-2012 06:02 AM

Yup, I get that all the time, too. Basically, if I sum everything up... If the dog/s can't be surrounded by toys all over the floor, move freely from house to yard and do whatever it pleases whenever it pleases.. it's too much effort http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.png

Yeah like the long haired ones aren't, or the pointers, or any working breed. I can't believe so many of those people made it to adulthood.

Petrushkaukrop 07-14-2012 06:06 AM

People are so dumb. Dog aggression, Animal Aggression and guarding Objects can happen in ANY Breed. :P I just love some peoples logic. Gives me a nice laugh for a swell day to follow.

maclaudser 07-14-2012 06:37 AM

My sister says the same thing, basically. She says it would be cruel for me to get a dog aggressive dog because I already have a dog and that dog aggressive dogs should be in single dog homes ONLY because chaining is cruel (WHY EVEN HAVE A DOG IF YOU'RE GONNA CHAIN IT?), crate and rotate is cruel (THE DOGS ONLY GET TO LIVE HALF A LIFE, THEY SPEND THE OTHER HALF OF THEIR LIFE IN A CRATE), and keeping the dogs separate is in general cruel because the original dog has to share your attention.

KkJvrG4d 07-14-2012 08:06 AM

Oh they would have a field day with me then. With 5 kids there is no room messyness.....lol

I've paid for exploratory surgery on 2 dogs and one died from eating something. Soooooooo nothing is allowed to be left out here. Kids doors to their rooms are to be closed at all times and dishes must be washed after use......

Plus the dogs MUST stay in the same room as me or my fiancé. They are not allowed to roam the house freely

People and their fur mommy demands.

Which makes you wonder how these people have kids. Seriously. You have to childproof the house by picking up things human babies and toddlers would get into or pick up and swallow/choke on.

Does your sister realize how much time dogs spend sleeping? When my brother would bring his dogs over and we'd have to crate and rotate and when my dogs have been recovering from surgery and not allowed to run and play it was always pretty obvious they didn't care much about crate time. When they were crated they'd chew a chewie and then nap. When they were out of the crate on rotation they'd play for a bit, find a chewie, chew it, and then nap.

For real. I bet my dog sleeps 20 hours a day. Does it matter where? Nope.

avaiguite 07-14-2012 02:31 PM

I've heard that crap too, and I also get to hear that I'm too much of a fanatic (over careful) with my dog.

Yeah, I've had to crate and rotate my girls after a bad fight and to be honest they didn't seem to care at all, although to be honest it was more "bedroom and rotate" than crate and rotate, but they slept half the time just the same. She said it didn't bother them because it was temporary.

Because heaven forbid caring for an animal should take some level of effort....

People like that sicken me. Whoever said something like that never needs to own a dog that isn't a plush toy or made out of plastic

Klissineopar 07-14-2012 04:28 PM

I would tell them its because I love a very energetic loving and loyal driven dogs that will do almost anything for you

WaydayTew 07-14-2012 04:54 PM

I don't mind any of the effort for my pups. I don't mind the cash. I don't mind that I have to steam clean my carpets almost daily because of tracking mud to take them on walks. ( It's rained at least 1 time a day here for the past week.)

Petrushkaukrop 07-14-2012 05:17 PM

I'm not even going to touch that one Chris.

I pick up valued items. Snow does have a few toys she will share with Jud. But even then I am close by. I take extra steps to make sure my dogs are safe. Whats scary is people will let their dogs fight just because 'that's what dogs do'.

LkEHaduy 07-14-2012 06:33 PM

no matter what breeds of dogs i had their highly valued items wouldn't just be left around the home
and no matter what the breed the dogs will be crated when i am not home to supervise.
