Default Personal protector
I had a man try to remove me from my car today. After yelling at me through my window and getting no where (this was all over a car park) he opened my door to get me out, I forgot I was holding Tank with one hand (instinctively so he didn't get out) I was more concerned about my foot slipping off the clutch and crashing into this guys car, anyway this guy gave me a shove and Tank just lost it, lunging foaming and snapping while I was trying to hold him back. The guy slammed the door and ran back to his car (I don't think he even knew the dog was there).
This may have been a really good bluff on Tanks part but I don't think so. I was pleased he waited for this guy to touch me before reacting and gauged the situation well. I only hope he doesn't have trust issues because of this.
All said and done I was so thankful he was there.

Wow I guess it was very lucky for you that Tank was with you! What a terrifying situation! Are you female?
Im glad Tank rushed to your rescue and scared the guy away! Just be careful from now if any of your friends try to rough-house with you that Tank doesn't take it the wrong way.

Also a good reminder to all of us to have our car doors locked from the second we get in (make it the first thing you do after sitting down) to the second we get safely home!

My old car was like that. Its annoying, but you're still safer to take the time to lean around and manually lock them all when you get in. Things like this aren't super common or anything but they DO happen and as women we all need to take precautions against predators. I.e. locking car doors, wearing seat belts (to slow down predator if trying to remove you from car), being vigilant while walking alone, etc.

I plan on getting a concealed weapon ID and getting a taser to put in my car in the door. But I try to remember to at least keep the passenger door locked so if i notice someone coming to my car I only have one other door to lock.

A taser is smart! The only reason I fear carrying weapons is I dont want somebody who is stronger than me to take my weapon and use it against me

Maybe get into some kind of self defense class or martial arts training. You become the weapon and no one can take that away.

It takes time, its a lot of work and practice, but its a good way to keep fit and once you have learned and practiced so that the movements are instinctive you can protect yourself.

My 13 year old daughter takes a class with adults because of her size and her natural inclination to fight. Kid never gives up in a match or shows fear even when she is injured or her opponent is much larger than her. When we signed her up for her classes I was warned she probably would injure herself on a fairly regular basis. She's broken fingers and toes and she hurt her ankle and knee a few times, but she still goes back because she loves it. So, I guess small personal injuries are a potential downside to training but if it saves your life some day that's a small price to pay.

I'm gonna wait until after I have this baby and then Imma look into it MJ. I totally forgot about Karate and its a good thing to take and keep up with as for any other self defense class.

I honestly do not like encouraging aggressive behavior by my dogs for any reason, even protection (unless they have been professionally trained in protection).

Good for Tank! This is why I like one of my females to ride with me when I go to town alone, especially at night. I just feel a bit more secure.

Glad to hear Tank was there and protective of you, wow, what an ordeal... that COULD have ended so much worse.

Good for Tank. I always take a dog with me when I can, especially going somewhere alone at night. I had to stop and get gas one time and this guy approached me from behind and I had JD (bulldogxcur) in the car he was laying down, but when that guy came up, JD came out the window and I caught him before made contact, but I've never seen someone run so fast! JD didn't play around and that dog was tough as nails. He was good natured loved people unless you threatened his family.

Now I usually just take Casper, his head hanging out the window usually deters most people from coming near me. The only thing I worry about is driving down the road. I've been almost hit a few times from drivers (usually men) staring at Casper's head out the window.

I've said a few times she is a Pit Bull in a human suit. I come from a long line of short women that share the traits of the APBT. Probably why I own 2 of them and fell in love with the breed. Understanding these dogs is like understanding my family for me, lol.

Watch a few hundred episodes of Criminal Minds. I used to yell at the screen "You wouldn't have been kidnapped and murdered if you had a dog!" a lot. End of winter a few random housewives in the area went missing from mall and grocery store parking lots. I started bringing Ike with me when I had to go run errands alone.

fuck the self defense training and go get a gun!!!!! get your pistol permit if required by your state!!!!! and carry the gun with you!!!!! like i always tell my friends and family "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6" need i say more!!!!

and you dont need a big gun because if its to big its gonna be to uncomfortable and you WONT carry it with you!!! a .22 cal in your pocket will protect you better than a 45acp at home
