Default My Pit seems to have stopped growing, whats the deal?
We rescued her at 3 months old and she was a tiny little pup. So cute. In the month after that, she grew rapidly to her current size. But since then, she hasn't seemed to grow. She's about 6 months old now and about 27 pounds. We saw a 7 month old Pit at the shelter that was much bigger than her.

Here is a picture of her next to our Pit-Bulldog mix and our Pit-Amstaff in the background. She's clearly much smaller. Thoughts?

Another with bro and sis:

Here's another picture of her graduating from puppy class.

And riding in the back seat.

Well, she's from unknown lines, so no telling how big she'll get. But she's what, 6 months old? She has PLENTY of time to grow. My girl from unknown lines had a major growth spurt at around 15 months when she gained almost 15lbs.!

Oh, wow! I thought they would have stopped growing at about 9-12 months!

She's so cute! And she still really young so don't worry, she still has plenty of time. Romeo is 18 months and I feel like he hasn't even stopped yet.

Long bones stop growing around 9 months. Then they begin to fill out. Lily was probably around that size at her age. She's now 45lb at 2.5 years at competition weight.

From what we've noticed within our dogs (may not be true for all dogs)-
They grew in height until about 8mths and after that they started to fill out to about a 1.5-2yrs old.

She'll probably stop growing UP by that age, but she'll fill out til she's around 2. Shoot, some dogs fill out a bit more even after they turn 2, just depends!

Yes, she's 6 months.
About 3 more mths of growing in height that is.... she will keep growing by filling out much more after 9mths of age. Before 9mths, she'll probably look like a skinny, tall, gangly looking dork.... then she'll start looking more and more like a normal dog after that lol.

Are you 100% sure that she is 6mths?
There's no way that when you rescued her she could have been 2mths and not 3mths? Just something to think about.
Did you see her parents and how short/tall they were? Maybe she just had really small parents.
Maybe she was the runt of the litter.
As long as she's at a healthy weight, it really shouldn't matter

But I personally would not compare her to other shelter dogs because you never know how old they truly are or that dogs true breed/s. As far as I know, shelters use what information they are told and when they don't have any info on a dog they guess the age based off of the condition of the teeth and guess the breed based off of shape and coat color.... which at times can be very wrong. You can really only compare her to her very own siblings... but in most cases, that's not possible.

For comparison:
Here's Rocko at 3/4mths old and then at 6mths old (tall and dorky)

And here's Onyx at 3mths old and at 6mths. She was also on meds which could have made an impact on her growth.

Apbts arent 26 inches tall or weigh 100#s.

She appears to be tall enough. Still has a few months to grow height wise too. Be patient. Before too long you will miss tge small cutness

Sams growing slowed down a lot after 4 months old.. shes not much bigger than she was at 4 months at all. But pits have a HUGE range in size.. some are big and some (like my Sam) are just little.. shes 8 months old now and shes still itty bitty

Your Sam looks a lot like Mia.

I bet Mia will be around that size.

As said you don't know the background of the dog. With that said 26 punds is a good wait at 6m for a pitbull. maybe they got the pup from a game line and they don't get much bigger than 50# and that is on the heavy side.
