Not to mention all it would take is the kid putting a hand through the fence and one of the dogs nipping him. He may not be doing it out of aggression. My dog gets really worked up when it comes to toys and such and she will get to the point of grabbing at the toy and not waiting and getting me. Say the kid puts his hand in after getting them all worked up with rocks and your dog nips him?!?! How long do you think it would take his parents to call the police....? Yes you have video of him teasing your dogs, but given the breed I wouldn't put it past them to say " oh well he still bit the kid sorry "

I agree with what others have said. I would move the fence back and keep a better watch. If your not home them dont leave your dogs out.

Someone throws rocks at me or pokes me with sticks I wouldnt be particularly friendly either. Pit bulls may be friendly with people but ANY dog will get aggravated if provoked enough. It would take a fairly dim witted dog to just stand there while being nailed in the head by rocks...

I'm always outside with Veronica; but for other reasons - where we live is pretty much isolated.

However if there were children around; I would be known as that crazy, mean lady that they told stories about on Halloween.

I was cringing every time one dog would go to change direction and the other dog was there... just WAITING for one of them to grab the other. :-/



I'm not saying dogs have endless tolerance, or that Pit Bulls are exempt from having a threshold.

However, the dogs in the video are not cornered. The dogs are actively engaging the children, with aggressive posturing and behaviour, even when the children are not throwing stones and are walking away.

Now, I don't know how long this has been going on for... but simply from what I saw in the video, the reactions of the dogs are dangerous.

Taranis & Scylla are inseparable but they have their own rules between them.
The only time I have to separate them is when they eat because Taranis is very food dominant.
Scylla on the other hand will not let Taranis enter the house before she has entered.
They seem to compete for who is allowed to stand at my perimeter fence & the one is always pushing the other one away.
They have a double bed & a crate to sleep in.
In winter they normally sleep in the crate together & summer they either sleep on the bed or if it is very hot they sleep on the tiles.
I have a ¼ acre yard which they have always had full reign of.
In South Africa it is safer to have an open yard than a closed yard.
The criminals seem to target the yards with high walls & if they think the security is too high they hi-jack a resident in front of the house & force him / her to give them access.
Tanktastic I have never heard of motion detection sprinklers before but I like your idea, I don’t think it would be too much of a problem to configure something like that.

Ah I see. I know my dog would just walk away and be done with the little brats. No the dogs don't need to engage but I would recommend that the OP makes sure none of this happens again. This is harmful to the dogs and it could also be potentially harmful to the kids doing it (or even just the general public). You don't want dogs of any kind much less an Apbt to view people as negative.

No offense but this situation seems to be a time bomb waiting to go off. For the two dogs and how the dogs view human beings (kids in particular). I would not allow to bull dogs to be alone like that. I would block off an area where the kids can't do these things to the dogs. It is your problem but if it were mine- I would deal with it ASAP.

I’ll take your advice & close my yard up in front but I don’t think that will solve the problem knowing the kids around here.

Unfortunately I haven’t got a camera on my pavement which means I can only see part of the incident.
I am planning to put cameras up on my pavement & hopefully get some better pictures of their faces that I can put up on our community forum.
Someone should be able to identify them & I can take this issue up with their parents.
I often take my dogs to the park & they seem fine with children.

I definitely hope it stays that way....

Taranis is three years old now & I haven't had a scrap yet.
I have more of a problem trying to take one of them to the vet.
When it is inoculation time I just take both of them together, it is much easier.

Yea.. My 2 dogs that can't seem to be away from one another still get into scraps regardless of how well they seem to always get along and need the other one near them.. This is why they're NEVER left together unattended, you just know. Better safe than sorry with my dogs.

They're ok with kids for now. If kids keep tormenting them that could change and it could change in a blink.

If you can't catch them in the act and make them tell you where they live then I would suggest a large run in the yard away from the fence.

Is it still legal to snatch a kid up by the ear and drag it home to it's parents?? As a parent, if someone dragged my kid home and told me/showed me video of that kind of behavior toward an animal I would apologize, thank the person for letting me know, whup the shit out of said kid and then ask if the monster can come and do penance like poop scooping the dog owner yard/bathing and grooming the animals etc. etc. under my supervision for quite a long time.

I also wouldn't have them in a crate together if one has to be one uping the other all the time. But it's your choice. Goodluck with those lil assholes!
