Sometimes it is not the Pitbulls that have to be trained, it is the public.

Last week end while working in my back yard I heard Taranis & Scylla barking like mad.
I went to my front yard to see what was happening & saw two children bolting down the street.
I was curious about what had happened so I went to view my CCTV cameras & this is what I saw.

feckless holligans

67Irralphaisa 06-17-2012 07:18 PM

I just need to make a few adjustments to my cameras so that I can identify these vandals

Blolover11 06-17-2012 07:21 PM

... and hope their parents (or the police) "calibrate" them

JAMES PIETERSE 06-17-2012 07:23 PM

What were they doing

SergeyMaikov 06-17-2012 07:23 PM

It might be funny to put up motion activated sprinklers toohttp://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png But if it's a public walk there might be restrictions. That is one thing I can't stand, disrespectful little sh*ts. Finding out who it is and talking to their parents most of the time does't help. I have had to put the fear into other peoples' kids to protect myself and my possessions.

what is going on in the video?

sPncEjF7 06-17-2012 08:26 PM

I couldn't tel what they were doing either. Kicking the fence?

JAMES PIETERSE 06-17-2012 09:20 PM

It looked like they were just running back and forth.

Natashasuw 06-18-2012 12:43 AM

It looked like they were either kicking the fence, or throwing rocks at it.

Why don't you put up a barrier that can't be seen through? I wouldn't subject my dogs to that, if I lived in a populated area.

I thought I saw a stick or something in one of kids hands too.

But yeah, Teal has a good idea if it's doable. Or maybe, could you move the fence-line back from the street? Mine is back from the street and even with the back of the house. I'm sure I'd have the same problems if the fence line was at the street

Or maybe a 2nd fence further into the property so there's a buffer zone between the street and the dogs.

I live in a populated neighborhood. In fact, I live attached to my neighbors. "Hooligans" like this are only a problem for people that don't supervise their dogs while outside. Do you want to solve this problem? Be responsible and supervise your dogs when they're outside. I don't have problems like this, and it's not due to a lack of neighborhood children; it's because when something happens it is addressed immediately.

There were neighborhood children that thought it was funny to ride their bikes past our house and make noises at the dogs. Yup, it was funny, especially when we told their parents about their shenanigans.

They are both throwing stones at my dogs. The one kid walks goes to the other side of the road to look for more stones then come across to my side of the road to throw stones at the dogs again.
I wonder how many other pets will be able to tell you the same scenario happened to them if we could communicate in the same language

Which is why YOU need to take measures to protect YOUR pets. You can't control what neighbourhood children do, especially if you aren't standing there watching your dogs... so protect them. You seem very cavalier about the situation! And your dogs weren't reacting very nicely. If someone were on the other side of a fence throwing rocks at my dogs, a few of them would just leave the fence, and a few others would retrieve the rocks for them. Your dogs didn't look like they were being very friendly.

I have just put my cameras up recently so I can't say what has happened previously.
I think I can understand now why some people can walk past my property without any problem & other times they go mad when someone walks past.

Blolover11 06-18-2012 04:57 AM

I wouldn't necessarily say the dogs were not being friendly. Who knows. They certainly were "alerting" though.
My dogs alert with everything from squirrels and other animals to stray cats and dogs. They will also bark most times as an alert when strangers walk by in the street or approach the door. They want to meet them and get attention from them.

Natashasuw 06-18-2012 05:01 AM

There is a difference between alerting, and actively engaging, like his dogs were. If the dogs were just alerting, they would have remained stationary and barked. But his dogs weren't doing that. Unless they were trying to catch the stones and were playing? But it didn't look that way to me.

And the fact that the OP said now that sometimes the dogs bark and sometimes they don't, also gives support to he fact that his dogs were engaging with those children.

gomosopions 06-18-2012 05:02 AM

I will say that you are extremely lucky that your dogs don't/haven't re-directed on each other. Something those kids would find even more amusing: huge dog-fight.
