I don't know why people feel the need to be antagonistic on threads/posts that either a) they have no interest in or b) that just annoy them. I skip over several every day that fall into those categories. I'm all for constructive comments even if they're negative but there's no reason to be rude.

And OP, I totally get Teal's point about being more specific about the use of the term "pit bull.". It's the overuse and over generalization that makes all of the dog attack stats look so skewed against the bully types. I realize their may be a huge portion of the population that refers to a tissue as a Kleenex but that doesn't change the fact that it might be a Puffs. ;-)

And if you have such a problem with the term "mutt" then call them "shelter mutts" or "rescue mutts" and see if that makes you feel better. Because while there is a SLIM chance that you have unpapered purebreds, they are more than likely mutts regardless of what you call them.

That first dog looks kind of like a Boyles dog to me.

You have got to be kidding?

They are very cute pups. The word mutt, is not meant to be derogatory in any way. It just means MIX

It's not a pretentious attitude. It's being precise about breed names. Pit Bull = American Pit Bull Terrier. If you don't know that is what they are, how can you call them that? And if you think it's evident they are "pits" why did you ask us what breed they were? AST, APBT, and Am Bullies are different breeds... not types.

I'm sorry, maybe it's just me... but I've never understood WHY people find it SO important to have a breed label for dogs of unknown origin. Sure, the dogs look like bull breeds. But even within each bull breed you listed, the sizes/looks range wildly because they aren't cookie cutter breeds. Hell, they could even be purebred something with lost registration... but you don't know. So I guess I'm asking.. what's the point of asking what other people think your dog is?

But hey, SINCE you asked.. the first dog looks like a Pit Bull mix. The second dog looks like an Am Bully mix.
Perhaps people think it's important to have a label because then they can belong to some type of group; like "hey you have an APBT? Me too". I think sometimes with mixes people lose this sense of identity. Also, maybe they want to have an answer for people who ask.
Don't get me wrong, I love looking at pictures but can we have a pop-up that comes up every time one opens pitbull-chat.com which says "We can not definitively identify your dog's breed without linage/paper work, but please post lots of pictures?"

I don't really understand the need for smartass remarks when someone is really just looking to learn about the different breeds. If my post made you roll your eyes, sorry...I'm new...I don't know what pisses you guys off. All you have to do is ignore it and move on. I came here to learn and not one of my posts hasn't had a rude response. I'm not really sure if it's the forum atmosphere so people feel more anonymous or what...but it doesn't make sense to me. You can still be respectful and never see the person's face.

If the word "Mutt" wasn't brought up negatively in the first place I probably wouldn't have gotten "dick-hurt" (btw, I don't have a dick, see below picture). I wasn't even asking what they were, I was asking what they resembled. If you can't do that without seeing paperwork...you don't have to post! Just wanted to start casual conversation without being attacked. I don't give a shit if my dogs are papered or not. I just bought my first "Papered" puppy after Zeus died. Zeus wasn't any less of a Pit Bull than my new pup.

I think the majority of the people on this forum have rescues ("Mutts")...so why are they even here, allowed on Pit Bull Chat, if they don't in fact own a Pit Bull???

I agree. But it's best to say they are a bully breed mix. It gives them a crowd and lets people know what they have.

Why is it that people don't have a problem calling a poorly/randomly/scatter bred cat ... a cat, but have a compelling desire (maybe, need) to slap a purebred breed name on every dog that comes out of a shelter, off the street, out of a backyard or from the parking lot of Walmart?
Human nature? And the fact that when dogs are discussed, they are discussed in terms of breed or looking like a certain breed?

I don't hear this line of thinking when someone goes to the shelter and gets a dog that appears to be a Poodle and calls it a Poodle etc....people don't jump all over him and say, "YOU CAN'T SAY IT'S A POODLE, YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT!"

Strange.

The OPs dogs appear to be very much Pit Bulls to me.

Kidding you about what?

I think it's only natural for people to wonder what their dog is mixed with, if anything. When you go to the store and want to try a new product, you look at the labels and ingredients. All you can do is give an opinion, it's not like these people are asking for a definitive answer, they just want some ideas and guesses. The DNA kits could actually tell those interested exactly what their dog is mixed with.

I think it's fun personally, looking at an unknown dog and guessing what he or she is.

Seriously. You have absolutely no right to call my dogs poorly bred. They're lineage is in fact a "mystery", right?

Don't get all bent out of shape. A few people got pissy, so what. At the end of the day you still have two beautiful dogs you can be proud of.
I'm not sure if "...so why are they even here, allowed on Pit Bull Chat, if they don't in fact own a Pit Bull???" is a serious question. However, it is true many people on here do have mutts, but that doesn't matter. What draws people here is a love of the dog, or type of dog. I'm sure there's someone out there who doesn't even own a dog that frequents this site. It's all about learning. Keep your chin up, you will get offended more than once here, but that's alright. Live and learn.
And don't forget to put up more pictures of those two cuties.

Well let me just say that I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved pet. You were truly blessed to have shared your life with such a friend. I too lost a canine friend back in October of last year. Her loss is what lead me to finding my Faith (that's her name), my pound puppy aka, possible pit bull mix.
Your dogs are adorable! Love the head tilt! I hope you have many happy years with them, teaching, learning and loving.

Thank you...I agree. I guess I just don't understand the fact that we all own a breed (correction...only a select special few with fancy papers) that is very much discriminated against, and we're sitting here discriminating against each other's dogs? How is that best for the breed.
