Hi this is my old pitbull Baggy, this pic was taken in 1991 when he was 9-10, the reason i remember the date is because i was given him in 1991 when the dangerous dogs act in the UK came in, he was meant to be castrated but his owner couldnt bring himself to do it, so i was given him to look after in his old age, as the owner knew i was good with the breed.
Also he had been registered with Vets who classed him as a pitbull, then set up an appointment for castration and tatooing.

Now im hearing that because of his wieght 100-120 pounds that he was too big to be a Pit, personally i always thought he was a nice example of the breed.
He had pink claws and nose, and i notice with the Red staffordshire bitch i own now , she looks exactly like a smaller version of baggy the pit ,but has black nose and claws.

Ive also seen a lot of these huge muscly bully type pits that wiegh a lot, but he didnt look like that he looked just like a big pitbull.
Dont know if it make a difference but he was born around the 1980.

Oh and thats a pic of him catching flies incredibly quick for a big dog.

Hard to say without papers to research his heritage. He was big boy for sure, and definitely had some bully in him... maybe had some mastiff as well??

The nose color is nothing more than color, just as humans have different colors of hair, same with the nails/pads, just some dogs have white nails, some have black, it doesn't really define anything as far as breed or anything.

The APBT is not as large of a breed as some think. Generally, a pure bred APBT will weigh between 45-65 pounds. The bulkier "bully" breeds, such as the American Bully, are much stockier and have a broader chest and shorter legs.

a lot of the early imports were big dogs .but .100-120lbs does seem really big though.
i take it your from blighty.? surely the man to ask is the one you got him off. also can you remember just before 91 the next "big thing" were Bandogs, they were popping up everywhere, Rdgeback crosses. mastiff crosses and the odd Rottie crosses.

My mate that i got him from, was a traveller and got him off irish travellers.

I always thought that Mastiff had been bred into the breed over the years, the irish travellers said Staffordshire,Bulldog and Mastiff made up most pitbulls.

The 45-65 pounds wasnt that from the american kennel club in 1898 since then id say through crossing and back crossing the breed is somewhat bigger than 1898?

I always thought Bandogs although being around for 100's of years got popular after the dangerous dogs act of 1991 to kind of bypass the act and the fact that all registered male pitbulls in the uk were castrated.

amstaffs arent APBT. and i guess i dont understand the rest of what you meant.

What i said was mastiffs have been bed in and out of Pitbulls for years.

I think the UK view is slightly different to the USA View considering we havent had papers for PitBulls in over 11 years, along with fake papers being readily available in the irish traveller community, (I was offered fake papers for mine)

American Pits came from england/ireland they were imported to america with the irish immigrants.

I think he looks like a bandog. And the colouring you're referring to - he is a red nose, which means all his pigment is diluted and will be red. The other dogs you're talking about would be fawns, genetically, but the coat colour can range from almost white to a dark rust red, and they would have black pigment.



Staffies - Staffordshire bull terriers, not Am Staffs...

The pit in the picture is an identical colour to my the staffy i have now, they look identical except the pit was much bigger, Pit has pink claws staffy black, is this breed thing?

Yes. Staffies don't come in rednose. So a Staffy the colour of the dog above would have BLACK pigment, as I said - black nose, black nails (unless there is white on the paws, then the nails can be white). Because genetically, they are two different colours even if their visual appearance is similar.
