You took the words right out of my mouth
Sometimes a kick in the butt at the right moment saves the day. Now if this person STILL breeds the dog, I would cut that person out of my life...

I think you did what was needed. I can say from experience..a simple..don't or small lecture..gets IGNORED. My own Aunt has a litter of 15 husky GSD crosses.....because I was polite about my objection.

Boo is now spayed. 4 different people are pissy with me because I did not breed her!

Gee, I do think she is nice looking and her ever changing color is kinda kool. And yes, I am a bit of a hard ass so she is well behaved, but that is not her temperent. If I could figure out how to breed good training into a blood line I sure would!

She is a craigslist freebiebull. Purebread craigslist freebiepittbull. I am sure they have equally as qualified dogs I could have paired her with.
Haha, same with us. I was talking to one of my husband's co-workers, telling him how I was going to ask the vet about what would be the best time to "clip" him. This guy has the nerve to say "Why don't you breed him?". I started lecturing him about how there are too many dogs in this world and he interupted me with "But you don't even have to do anything, just sit back and collect the dough". Mind you this dog is 3 months old and also a "freebiepittbull". God only knows what he really is.

I guess your right. It's just tht im tired of people constantly asking questions like these. Even while they know they aren't ready for the responsibility. I'll talk to her about it later. It's just that at the time i was upset as well as totally irritated. Tylenol didn't work too well today... -_-'

Oui!, now that I've read my rant over. I feel like a jerk. ugh here comes the tiny violin... *notes*...maybe i will help her get the requirements and at least some experience. Just to prevent her from looking foolish. Don't get me wrong i love my friend. But of all people...I guess we'll just have to talk it over...after my migranes gone. -_-'

Lmao! @ Shephard thing
I think if some of these shelters weren't so god damn picky we wouldn't have such a demand for puppy. I mean come on, my local shelter will only allow you to adopt a dog is A. you are home all day, if not you must be able to come home ever 3 hours or you must be able to bring your dog to work. (for puppies, I can understand but an adult dog that you have had a couple years does not need to have someone constantly with them) B. you have past vet references (so you can't be a first time owner?) C. they want $650 dollars (really? I understand vet bills and shelter fees but 650? Some vets around here don't even charge an office fee) and finally D. you must own your own home with more than an acre with a 6 foot fence (I don't think a tea cup poodle really needs this requirement).

We need to come up with a disincentive for these BYB. I think that's where shelter dogs come from, right?

We didn't qualify. We OWN our own home but because I only had vet references for a horse I guess we weren't good enough,.

I don't think I "sugar coat" things when I talk to people, I just talk respectful and in as positive manner as possible. I think you can say what needs to be said, and do so in a polite tone. Sometimes, the best way to get through to someone is to speak to them in the same way you would like to be spoken to.

Flipping out and basically insulting them is no way to get the point across, you were once like them to until you learned. Being polite and respectful but firm on your belief will get the point across more. Think before you speak.

I'm a FIRM believer in "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" type person. Not everyone thinks this way, but I think you could have explained to her why you feel the way you do, and gotten the point across and educated her where she would have "listened" to it more, if you had gone about it a little "kinder". Only time will tell if she listened to one word you said, but as old as I am, and with two grown kids to remind me, people have a tendency to tune you out once you start yelling.

If ya'll think the OP was extreme you should have heard me when my neighbor and brother bred their dogs...

I think sugar coating and being "nice" does more harm than good in this type of situation. Speak your mind, back it up with facts, don't back down!

well , IMO since this was a friend of the OP she probably could have dealt with her in a better way because she is a friend.

i don't think that sugar coating has anything to do with it you can tell all the facts and the things the OP did regarding the dog without being mean. like mollies nana said you catch more flies with honey then vinegar. you can get your point across more effectively being nice then you do with being a "dick". honestly if i asked a friend a question (about anything) and they responded to me like that i would reconsider that friendship and get my advise elsewhere (and who knows what advise that could be).

i don't disagree with the OP on what she said just think the delivery method could have been different.

You may have went over board. Your friend asked you before doing it which means she values your opinion. If she didnt care what you had to say she would have just done it and not discuss it with you. You cant kill someone for not knowing.
i agree with this. i get your opinion but maybe the way it was handled was too harsh. she is a friend so i am assuming if you went about it in a friendly way trying to educate it may have went over better. from her response you posted it sounded like she was offended/suprised at your reponse but not for the information the way you told her by her saying Well you dnt have to be such a Bitch about it
