I joined last year to get some insight etc. I've been running hogs and working with bullies all my life so it wasn't so much for being a newb as it was to get to know others and learn new things. Both of which I've been rather bad at. Now that I logged back in today, I fear I will become addicted.
Anyway, this is kinda interesting. I posted briefly in my welcome thread about Copper. The pit mix/bully mix who found me in October. Well, after months and months of searching, falling empty handed, searching. We finally got her info on her microchip (new owners never updated it. So I had to actually GO there to let them scan it. The vets scanner kept coming up no-information) I found out the following: She was purposefully bred, kind of around the corner from me, as a hogging dog (it's a big thing here. Usually by well versed hunters helping iliminate issues caused from damages etc). Both her parents are successful. Her Sire is a Southern Blackmouth Curre , her dam is a pitbull. Well, from the picture they texted me.. she's more like a gynormous, but very athletic, ambully. But it was very nice of them to talk to me and I know the sire well. I've seen him run and man he's a catcher. So, after 3 months of living, she wasn't "huntin right" she didn't have any "go" (yeah..well they should see her now) so they wanted her to go to a pet home. So TADA!! They took her to the pound. She was adopted out. And returned 5 weeks later for chewing up a large collection of power rangers or something. And a few shoe casualties. She was readopted out within two weeks. As a pet. Then on October 15th of 2011 a wiggly, wobbly mess of a 9 month old (found this out, too) at the time, puppy with a harness and a mans flip flop showed up at my porch while I was getting ready for a horse show at 4am. I couldn't do anything for her, so we put her in the back yard with water. She was still there when I got back that night. Long story short, sent my son with her door to door. CL. Flyers. One radio station. Not a response. Was so relieved when we went to the SPCA and found all this out. So I'm standing there, kind of worried because I'd gotten pretty attached, and they called the most recent adopter. They said keep her. She tears everything up. So I signed some papers, made a donation. And she's my dog. Knowing her "breeding", even if it is shit-tastic this is a great idea Pa!!!! breeding. I know something at least. I've been lucky so far as she has no allergies, but she's on raw as I've always fed. She needs to lose about 10 lbs.. my fault completely I got busy these past few months and short walks were all I could muster up. But we're back to running again. She does already have hip displasia (sp?). I found that out back in November. So the weight has to go. Anyway, I'll post what she looked like when she found me: ![]() ![]() And here she is this past week ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway, the behavioral issues they had we also did for.. a minute! She's crated (if she's not with me) when we're not home, even for a run to the store, and for bed time. She's actually really good. I've put a lot of time into getting a good heal on her. And we finally mastered the heel, sit, look at me when bikes, joggers and people in general (with dogs) pass us on the narrow hiking trails. She does have a lot of go, and no stop. I will be asking what kinds of things I should do with her. Taking her hips into consideration. But I don't need a "sport" persay, I thought of diving...then we met the pool.. and that didn't go over well ![]() So anyway, thanks for looking and Hi DancesWithCurs!!! PS: She's out of the prong now. I have horrible arthritis and I couldn't deal with her leash manners at first. She's now in a wide flat collar and doing great. I didn't want to get chewed out for that. It made my cues clear for her and my arms stay on my body. ![]() |

Thanks! He's 13. She was about 9 months old there. She's got to be.. huh.. a year and 4 months now? It's "his" dog.. when he feels like it. Kinda like feeding the kennel dogs. |

OMG she is so gorgeous! She looks a little like my dog Amy.
Lucky you, and thank you so much for giving her a stable and good home after everything she's been through. I get so frustrated at people giving up puppies for chewing things. They're PUPPIES. That's what they do. Sounds like she just needed some guidance and a stable home and she's doing great. |

Welcome back! I enjoyed your story and she is a very pretty girl! That's neat to have found out about her background. She reminds me of my girl Chassis (not the one in my avatar right now) in the face at least, sort of similar expression, though Chassis is more slight built. So glad she has finally found her way to a GOOD home this time.
