M- TH Veronica is with my Mom When I'm working; during which time my mom is pretty much constantly focused on her. She even trained her to bark (don't ask me how) when she is on the phone because she doesn't like talking on the phone - so V. starts making a racket and she's like "Oh gotta go, the dog doesn't want me on the phone".
![]() V. does NOT do this at home w/ me and Jon; but if I call my Mom from work, sure enough...I hear some ill behaved, heathen dog barking like a nut in the background. Fridays I have off and we spend all day together usually with my Mom; which consists of doing errands, taking a walk and stopping for a snack. That's when I do V.'s shopping, so she can come in the pet stores with us. Saturday and Sunday I spend about 3 to 5 hours each focused on her between training and play and baths; but we are "together" as in in the same room or car with each other 24/7. We sleep together; our bedtime routine is, out to potty, get a special cookie from the jar, run to the bedroom, have the cookie in bed, then get your teeth brushed. My husband is a teacher, so during the summer months when he is home, V. is with him or my mom. |

My office is open 7 days a week, so my work schedule varies a bit. Henry and I spend a bit of one on one time in the morning after I get ready for work, usually cuddling on the couch while I watch the news or surf the web. I'm usually home from work by 7pm, and since my husband works a later shift than I do, this is also special time for Henry and me. We go for our evening walks, run errands to dog friendly places, check out new walking trails, parks, etc. At least twice a week we meet my parents at a local park to walk with their dog, Henry's 'sister' Maggie.
So from 7-10pm most weeknights Henry and I are together. Whenever I'm off from work, it's usually Henry time for a few hours a day. Cuddling, playing, running errands, or exercising together. I don't have any kids so he definitely gets a lot of one on one time! |

It seems like I spend about 40 hours a day keeping her highness fed, watered, amused etc. But it only seems that way. My job is cut back to 3 days a week right now and the other days I spend a lot of time outside working in my flower beds and yard and Sadie is my constant companion. She has toys and sticks and the occasional critter to amuse her. We have over an acre she can roam in and there are vineyards on one side and behind our house and she's allowed to wander in them for a ways, so she amuses herself fairly well. And she makes sure I get plenty of opportunity to throw her balls for her.
If we're just sitting outdoors she is out there with us too of course. And she goes on 90% of our gator rides through the fields too. She has her rug for the back and her water jug and dish, so she's quite the 4 wheeler. All in all we spend quite a bit of time with her. Good grief - I wish some nice family like us would adopt me. Her life sounds pretty carefree and wonderful. |

Currently, I'm off from school so I'm home all day. I have been looking for a job because I go to law school and the books alone bleed me dry. My daughter is in the best program in the area. It gives young children a real edge when they start pre-school; so she's gone from 9 to 2:30. My husband leaves the house at 5am and he's usually home by 6pm (he's a contractor/carpenter). This gives me a lot of time to focus on our puppy. He has become my shadow.
Even when my daughter comes home we do activities together. We go for walks, I try and teach her how to be responsible with a dog and the like. We have a large backyard which has a 6ft fence (thanks to this forum I now know this must be replaced), my daughter, the puppy and I spend a lot of time in the yard. I usually weed my flower and vegetable garden (which includes corn) while the dog chases my daughter around. My daughter also likes to play fetch with the dog for a good hour or so. So all in all I guess we are pretty focused on the dog. We have a full size bed (which I can't replace because I bought the most beautiful bedroom set) and all of us sleep in it together. Our 3 year old daughter refuses to sleep alone, so I'm usually occupying a little sliver of the end of the bed with the dog sleeping on my legs. Unfortunately my husband is a big guy, 6'4 220 pounds, in the middle of the night he tosses and turns which leads to me and the dog falling off the bed. ---------- Post added at 11:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:03 AM ---------- It seems like I spend about 40 hours a day keeping her highness fed, watered, amused etc. But it only seems that way. I enjoy playing fetch, cuddling and long walks on the beach. I could even act like a guard dog, just give me a shot gun |

Im a stay at home mom and I would say I spend about four hours total spent just on the dog.
As soon as I wake up I take him out for about 5-10 mins and will do this about every 30 mins to an hour until bed. My son and I spend a good hour playing with him before lunch every day, and depending on the weather take him for a walk. We do an hour of play time before dinner and another 30 min walk after dinner. Soon training classes will start and that will be a full hour for him. |

I wish I had more time for the dogs but I do what I can.
When I get home from work (I work 5am till 2pm) in Winter, if I am exercising both dogs separately, Sunny will get between 30/45mins to a hour with me, depending on my mood. Serenity will get an hour or more, depending when its going to get dark. It's dark by 5:30pm so I get home by then, soon it'll get dark by 5pm. If I take Serenity to exercise and not take Sunny, she'll get 2 hours or more. Her walks consist of play time and training at one point. If it's Summer, if it isn't too hot, they get more exercise as it doesn't get dark till 6:30. On the weekends, they get several play times and longer walks, all depending what I feel like. They do hang inside with me at night and sleep inside. When I get home, it normally is my time since I need to clean/do the dishes and I'd rather relax and watch some Tv before having to sleep then do anything else. |

Joe; I'm curious. Do you ever let Mason have time on a long leash and to explore a new, safe place, just for fun? Come to think of it ... it's the ONLY place he's been off-leash in public |

I try to spend at least 30 minutes a day with each dog individually.. and every evening, I take a different dog for an hour long walk with just me and them. We spend *at least* 3-4 hours a day on exercise... usually it's closer to 6-8. But for some of that, it's the dogs playing with each other and me just supervising. Peshamba gets more individual attention since she's a "no mingle" right now... so she gets to play flirt pole all by herself. I've always got a bed full of dogs at night... Zealand starts out under the blankets, but gets too hot and ends up on my pillow and/or head. Bukra cuddles up with his giant stuffed dog most of the time, so I don't know if that really counts.. but he's in my bed lol And Jolene and Ruger rotate sleeping in my bed.. whoever is cleanest at the time haha
2 hours on a mill? Am I reading that right? I assume it's an e-mill. Are you training your dog for a triple marathon? When I e-milled my dogs, 2 hours was just a warm up... then we'd go out and play fetch for hours on end ![]() |

My dogs are neglected based on some of the stuff I'm reading here
![]() I'm home a lot, and the dogs are always around me, so I guess that counts. Although they sleep most of the day.. I don't have the time OR the energy (or the body, my knees/lower legs are terrible) to devote hours upon hours of exercise on my dogs. We go to the park a few times a week (weather dependent) and they run easily 3mi. each time; we stay for about an hour, maybe a little more. On the days we don't go to the park, I try to take them out front of my house to a field and play fetch for 20-30min. That's it! I wouldn't have the patience to sit in front of a treadmill with them for 2hrs. LOL. They do other activities at times though, but those aren't daily things. Like Sako is in agility class once a week right now, and Wilson goes to the dock to practice every so often. Sometimes I take them to swim at my parents, or we go to the beach, just depends. |

With dogs in general, well... I work with dogs, then I come home to my pack. I'd say I spend about 3 hours a day NOT surrounded by dogs or handling them
As for time training etc, I really don't anymore. Everyone but the Brussels seem to know their place and what I expect of them. Sent from my HTC-PG762 using Tapatalk 2 |

Whoops. As for exercise, they all get about 4 to 6 hours in the yard running around like fools together, playing fetch and flirt pole when I'm not doing yard work and laughing at them. And they all get several LONG walks a week from either me, boyfriend, or the roomies.

well, i am a home maker so i am ALWAYS with Peanut. i don't leave him alone for very long if i even have to because i get anxiety unless he is around to keep me calm. the only times i am not focused on him is when he is taking naps and that is usually when i find time to sneak onto the computer and visit the forum. I'd say I spend a good 2-5 hours a day specifically on them. And the rest of the time at least one is lounging at my feet or in the bed (they're only allowed in the bed with "dad" until their real bedtime at 11pm.. then it's to the crate). |

Probably about 3 hours. We walk for about 2 to 2 and a half hours a day, and then have about a half hour of play and/or training time. That's not counting all the snuggles, petting, and sleeping next to me.
She's a spoiled dog. For a dog I don't think it can get much better than finding a 30-something unmarried, childless woman with time and money to spare ![]() |

I'm retired and spend 24/7 with my two house dogs, Mason and Sugar. But in all honesty, I only spend I think maybe on average 2-3 hours each day specifically focused on JUST them. Maybe some days 3-4 hours and of course the minutes in passing add up as well.
Tonight, I'm just feeling a little guilty for not spending more focused time with them. Mason seems more needy for that than Sugar, but he is only just almost 9 months old. How much time each day do you devote entirely to your dog(s) |

I can't really say how long I'm totally focused on the dogs. Individually maybe 15-20 minutes a day. As a group, they are with me while I'm home, usually hanging out in the living room. Like right now, Casper is laying on my feet and Circe is in my lap and the rest are on dog beds or the couch. I work 40 hours a week and my days off I'm usually taking my mother to a doctors appt.
When I work in the yard, they are outside with me, but I'm not focused on them unless they are messing up my plants! I will usually sit on the front steps with a zoom groom and shedding blade and go over each one of them at night which they all love. I play with the flirt pole with the few that like it for a little while a few times a week. I do take pictures of them! I do not walk them very often, too many loose dogs. We try to go hiking once a week, but again, they are off doing their own thing and not with me! Do you count sleeping at night? Jack snoring in my ear should count for something or Ronon kicking me in the back. At least the snoring b/c I'm quite focused on it and it disturbs my sleep! ![]() |
