Default A Place to Live
So.... I'm moving to Nashville for 4 years and will be bringing Twister with me. I recently got accepted to Lipscomb's College of Pharmacy so I will be moving in late July. I've looked at several apartments so far and apparently Nashville is not particularly "pit friendly". I need something within a reasonable distance to the college and in a safe area. Preferably under $800 a month if I can find it. Anyone from or in the Nashville area have any suggestions that may help me out? I am not super familiar with the city other than the touristy type attractions, so I'm having a bit of a hard time. I'd rather not have to lie about his breed if I can help it. Besides, he doesn't really look like much else... His head and eyes are a dead give-away. Thanks in advance for any help!

If you did end up having to lie you could probably pull it off. Ive met a lot of people who would believe Sam isnt a pit JUST because of her full prick ears. Youd be surprised how dumb people can be lol..

Yeah, I have told the apartments I've looked at so far that he is a Boston terrier mix. I figured with the ears, that could help me. We'll see I suppose.... Hopefully I'll get some replies here

How far away is too far? Have you looked around Springfield, Pleasant View, even Clarksville?

I need it to be within a 30-minute driving distance of Lipscomb University

Why not look at non-apartment places? Try to find someone renting out their house, or a room within a house. They're easier to talk into accepting dogs than apartment complexes with breed restrictions.

I know cost will be a factor, but it's much better without roommates if you have a dog.

Check CL for places.. dealing one on one with a person vs. dealing with a manager of a bunch of apartments is going to be much easier. I have a couple friends in my area that did this and their landlords don't have an issue with their dogs.

Try looking for rental information on citi-data.com. Sign up and pick your city. Post your question in the forums. The website was a life saver when my husband and I had two weeks and one weeken to find a place to live in Charlotte, NC (we lived in Richmond VA). It helped with what neighborhoods (areas) you should and should not live in and you may be able to find info on rental home or realtors that rent houses that may not have a pet restriction. Good luck.

It took me FOREVER to find a place to live here in San Diego with my pitbull.

I agree with Teal, try finding someone who is renting their house. I once lived in a home that a guy purchased as his second home but it was too far for his wife to drive to work everyday so he only required me to pay for the room, but the whole house was all to myself, he said he would pay water, garbage, electric, everything practically, and I had my dog with me, no problems.

I sent you a message. Is your dog purebred or mix breed? Don't get discouraged there will be something out there

Thank you everyone for your replies! Thankfully I have until the first week of August to find a place. I put an ad on Craigslist. I've received a couple of responses, one in particular sounded promising. I go to look at it on Friday. We'll see!

Sometimes one should only get a dog when they own their own home. That's what I had to do.... wait.

Sometimes one should shut their mouths and let others simply question if they are an idiot or not rather than open their mouths and remove all doubt. Just saying....

Either way she has to move (she's relocating states I believe?), maybe she doesn't have money to buy a house yet

I'm not here to fight EJB's battles as I know she is more than capable, but to fill in a little tidbit - she HAS owned her own home and it simply is not her fault (or an issue of irresponsible ownership) that she could not predict how her life would drastically change one day. She's been through a lot and is a very strong and inspirational person, jackasses who want to lecture her to get e-cred and cool guy points on the intrawebs need to go eat something that rhymes with "thick".

I'm not disagreeing, I just don't get the point of RTP making assumptions is all. A lot of us don't know her so for all we know she did own her home lol
