New rescue
 

I just recentcly rescued JADA from am family that made a very bad mistake, they used a shampoo from bed bath and body works and she developed this rash that spread pretty quickly. I have started a treatment of benadryl and the rash is starting to clear and hair is starting to return, she also gets oatmeal baths every 2 days. My biggest question is that I was told by the ppl that i got her from that she was a pitbull terrier and that both her parents were rednose pits. well her nose is black as can be. she is 6 mths old at this time. Picks posted below, i know she is not a dalmation due to her spots are just now coming in. I was surfing the web one day and found a male beagle terrier that looked excactly like her( Actually thought it was her before the rash) Is there a way to tell is she is a true pit other than a expensive dna test.

She looks like a mutt to me. There's absolutely no way for you to know for sure. DNA tests aren't even accurate. They're a waste of money. Also, when your average person tells you their dogs are 'red-nosed pits', it generally means they know next to nothing about the APBT. Haha. It's your generic BYB term. A red nose is just that. The color of the dogs nose. Anyway, like I said, she looks mixed. I don't even really see APBT in her.

Forgive me, but what on earth is a beagle terrier?

I hope her rash heals up. I'd suggest a vet visit, if you haven't already. She's very cute. =)

aside from what lizard just told you...two red nosed dogs can produce black nosed pups.

Also...it's not necessarily the shampoo that caused her skin reaction. It COULD be, but a lot of dogs are prone to allergies of all kinds, just like people.

What I see is patchy hair loss...not a rash. Looks more like demodectic mange to me.

How long has the dog had this "rash"? Do you know the people you got her from?

If I were you I'd get a skin scraping done at a vet to test for mange...because that does NOT look like an allergic reaction.

nobody can tell you what breed of dog you have. She's definitely a pit bull mix from the pictures. Red nose is just a nose color - just like people with brown hair can have a red-headed child. Genetics are funny like that.

Your dog needs to go to a vet if she hasn't already.

I agree with the vet visit! That is NOT just a case of allergies!

She looks mixed to me.. I would say pit bull mix. She needs to get to the vet, looks like she has major skin issues that needs to be looked at by a vet and treated.

Welcome to the forum! I echo what everybody else said about seeing a vet. I have a very hard time believing that any kind of shampoo can cause a reaction like that.

I also agree with everyone else. That's not a rash. I have an allergy dog that breaks out in hives and rashes on a fairly regular basis and it looks nothing like that. Head in to the vet, ask for a skin scrape. If it is demodex mange and the vet suggests mitaban dip, ask about treating with ivermectin instead. Much less toxic, very effective, and a lot less expensive. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

cute pup. At that age, demodex mange would be the first thing that came to my mind, and I would think that 6 months is too young for most dogs to have such severe case of allergies, unless it was ago acute onset of some thing (I could be wrong). The vet would be the best place to go. I second what Teal said, bathing too much is not a good thing.

Thanks for the replies...She has been to the vet and thats what they told me it was...Think im gna seek another vets advice...They told me oatmeal baths and benadryl should clear it up but it hasnt so im go to humane society and get a scrape. My full brindle pit never had ne of these probs so when i got her i was lost. I agreee she is a mix but the city is sayin she is a bully breed but i just dont see it. Again thanks for all the info
