Default Wow.. Talk about blowing my mind.
This happened yesterday and I am still not over it.. It's defiantly a 'Wow, idiot' moment.

I work with a New Zealand guy, Tee. We get on great, always chatting and mucking around. He's a cool, funny, fun guy who is great to be around and then he tells me this..

I was putting this smallish box aside to take home to use in Serenity's kennel. He basically said about the box being so small and asked what type of dog I have. I told him a Kelpie x but she's on the small side. He then sas 'My dogs would have eaten her!'

So.. I of course ask, out of curiosity, why and what type of dogs did he own?

He owned Pitbulls back in NZ, his family still does. He used to fight his dogs. Ok, I'm shocked he was so open about it and I decided to ask a few more questions. The fighting shocked me but this just blew my mind.

1st; the 4 dogs got on well together but would have fights here and there, they didn't care. They'd let the dogs fight over food when they were fed which I find disgusting.

2nd; all his dogs were HA, he used his dogs for protection. I know the difference between protection and HA. They made their dogs HA to strangers because they wanted good protection, they never socialized the dogs.

2nd; his dogs could jump the fence. Great combo, right? 4 Pitbulls, DA and Ha! I heard at one point they fixed the fence up.

3rd; he'd take all 4 to a local open space to let all 4 of them run around off leash, where people would pass. Again, worst situation ever.

4th; he believes in the locking jaw myth.

5th; I heard his dogs attacked quite a lot of strange dogs. I feel so sorry for the owners/dogs that encountered these 4 dogs.

I'm just shocked. If he's going to fight his damn dogs, why not at least contain the damn dogs properly! And Feed them properly! It was horrible hearing what his dogs did.. I don't agree with anything he told me and I don't even know how to react. I just stood there, in shock half the time as he talked.

What an idiot. Words cannot express how I feel.

Well, He's not a "dog man", he doesn't "fight dogs" in the way it was done in the past. He's just a idiot who lets his dog attack things.
It's like people who shine deer and "hunt" from cars. That's not hunting.

If his judgement is so crappy with dogs, I would start steering clear of him...

You say "dog man" like it is a term of endearment. Is there a good way to fight a dog?? Or am I just missing something?

A structured way to fight. Put two dogs in a pit, growling/challenging ensues, the dogs attack, they get injured severely, they fight to death or they aren't "game" so they poor gasoline on the dog and light it on fire. Another day, another dollar. Ugh. Sickens me.

Yeah, I agree it's all around crappy thing to do to a dog... Dogs are meant to me our companions an not to be treated in this manner.

No not a term of endearment, but a term of description. Is their any good way to fight a dog? Not in this day and age, no.
In any form of animal usage you will run the gauntlet of what is deemed except-able.
I eat meat. I pick free range, grass-fed as much as possible. I don't choose factory farming.
Horse racing
Hunting
Animal testing
Blah blah blah
This guy is a no nothing. But his little speech is a red flag.

Tisn't how it was done. Dogmen of old had RESPECT for their animals. It's modern day wanna-be gangstas who treat dogs cruelly.. hangings, setting them alight, etc. I know you think dog fighting is some horrendous bloodsport, so we'll never agree there.

lol, I didnt say it just because Teal did.. I dont think it was justifiable, and I definitely DONT support dog fighting. I just think it wasnt as bad as people tend to think it was. Dogmen back then took good care of their fighting dogs, and never let them die in fights like the gangsters do now, and they only had dogs that WANTED to fight go into the pit.

Does that mean I like dog fighting? NO, I think its sickening and abusive. All Im saying is it was very different back then and old school dogmen are not the same as modern dog fighting gangsters.
