This happened yesterday and I am still not over it.. It's defiantly a 'Wow, idiot' moment.
I work with a New Zealand guy, Tee. We get on great, always chatting and mucking around. He's a cool, funny, fun guy who is great to be around and then he tells me this.. I was putting this smallish box aside to take home to use in Serenity's kennel. He basically said about the box being so small and asked what type of dog I have. I told him a Kelpie x but she's on the small side. He then sas 'My dogs would have eaten her!' So.. I of course ask, out of curiosity, why and what type of dogs did he own? He owned Pitbulls back in NZ, his family still does. He used to fight his dogs. Ok, I'm shocked he was so open about it and I decided to ask a few more questions. The fighting shocked me but this just blew my mind. 1st; the 4 dogs got on well together but would have fights here and there, they didn't care. They'd let the dogs fight over food when they were fed which I find disgusting. 2nd; all his dogs were HA, he used his dogs for protection. I know the difference between protection and HA. They made their dogs HA to strangers because they wanted good protection, they never socialized the dogs. 2nd; his dogs could jump the fence. Great combo, right? 4 Pitbulls, DA and Ha! I heard at one point they fixed the fence up. 3rd; he'd take all 4 to a local open space to let all 4 of them run around off leash, where people would pass. Again, worst situation ever. 4th; he believes in the locking jaw myth. 5th; I heard his dogs attacked quite a lot of strange dogs. I feel so sorry for the owners/dogs that encountered these 4 dogs. I'm just shocked. If he's going to fight his damn dogs, why not at least contain the damn dogs properly! And Feed them properly! It was horrible hearing what his dogs did.. I don't agree with anything he told me and I don't even know how to react. I just stood there, in shock half the time as he talked. What an idiot. Words cannot express how I feel. |
