You need to stop trying to give away Jolene! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png
I agree with the suggestion of finding an older dog that way you will know their energy level. While I wouldn't say low energy is common, there is a difference and being as there is no shortage of pit bulls in rescue, I'm sure you can find one that isn't as active. My last foster had to be forced to exercise. She was content to sit in your lap all day. The one before her was NEVER still. She tore up every toy I bought, destroyed my yard running in it, and drove me nuts. I prefer a more medium activity level. One that if I want go wonder in the woods all day is fine to go and doesn't tire out easily, but if I want to stay in bed all day today reading, is fine to curl up next to me and doesn't have a fit for not getting exercised. |
Well it's good to know there are some out there. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png I don't mind "selective" energy. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png I'm just not sure I can deal with another that bounces off the walls and the fence all day even after being pretty thoroughly exercised.

Jo just gets sun burned -.- |
Veronica is UKC...so mostly AmStaff...and she can't keep up with me (and trust me I am no dynamo).
The biggest jokes around my house are: - I bought a $1700 treadmill in preparation for her arrival...because I couldn't possibly exercise her enough on my own. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rofl.gif I insisted on a 6 foot fence so she...wait for it...couldn't jump over it! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rofl2.gif (You'd stand a better chance of seeing a hippo in a tutu). Once when the weather was really warm, we went for a walk...and I had to...call...for...a...ride...home. Really. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.pnghttp://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/frown.png |

My new rescue, Axle, who I got about 6 weeks ago at the age of 18 months, is low energy. Now being a rescue, I can't be sure what he's made up of, but he looks to be more AmStaff than anything, imo. He is very calm, easy going around the house, and tires quickly when out for a run. Although he could jump and catch balls all day long, it's his favorite thing.
My other pit mix is Chassis, who is an APBT/AmStaff blend (but visually seems to favor the APBT side) is what I would describe as medium energy. She has extreme endurance and loves to run and never ever seems to tire, but at the same time, she is a calm easy-going couch potato indoors. So finding a low to medium energy level is possible if you're willing to go with American Bullies, or pit bull mixes from a rescue. I really enjoyed adopting an adult dog since his personality was already known. (And to escape all the woes of having a puppy!) |

I have actually seriously considered going to the animal shelter and asking to borrow a dog for 3 hours or so for a nice long leisurely walk. I'm certain V. is secretly gleeful that she hurt her CCL and had to be taken out of agility. There was actually one time that I took my eye off her for 1 minute...turned around and she gone...bitch was laying down under the A-frame...and if I had $1 for everytime she went in the tunnel and wouldn't come out... |

Does she even know she is a dog? http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png |
See go figure, my Amstaff is the most hyper of my bunch. He's usually always moving around, always gets up if we get up, stuff like that. And when we go to the park, he runs circles around the other two. He's not annoyingly hyper by any means though.

They do exist, I have a couple. Check with your rescues and those that foster. You might be able to locate an adult one in foster care or with a rescue. I know there are a few rescues out there that sometimes post that they have the most laid back, couch loving, snoozing pit bull for adoption from time to time. They do exist though, Mollie is definitely the world's laziest dog!! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif

Thanks everyone! I love hearing your stories! http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/smile.png
Endurance is good because we like to go for long walks sometimes. I just don't want a dog I can't tire out and who will destroy things or try to jump the fence out of boredom and having too much pent up energy. |

And don't forget, he's ball obsessed! Which I hate you for, by the way http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/lol.gif ---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:23 PM ---------- Quote:
LMFAO. Oh man.. that is priceless! |
My dogs get off the couch for two things...and two things only. 1.When I bring out the leash. and 2 (my favorite one ...note sarcasm font) whenever someone comes over.

I even had the vet check Veronica's heart. I'm like "OMG...there must be something wrong...!!!" The only thing that's wrong is she is...LAZY!!! Even when she gets the zoomies 2 - 5 spins around the yard and she's like "Oh yeah, that felt good. Done now...gonna wander around the yard and eat grass to make my allergies flair up". I try to get her to play fetch with me and after maybe 10 minutes or so of fetch & tug, I throw the toy (she doesn't do balls) and she just watches it land and bounce and then she walks away...to sniff and eat grass. http://www.pitbull-chat.com/images/smilies/mad.png |
