If she's never been on a chain, don't just put her out there and walk away...observe her on the chain for a couple of days...be nearby...
Also, be aware some dogs won't "go" if they feel they are on a "leash" -- observe that she IS going before you take her in the house. A quick lap around the (repaired) yard with you in attendance is appreciated by any dog kept on a chain before they go inside.

Great advice thank you for your input

aww I'm so glad you found her and a neighbor helped you out!

That's such a heartwarming story.

Pit bulls are AMAZING escape artists. When Amy has busted out of containment (before I got her and once when I had her) it's always been to get to her person, not away from them. Your dog probably freaked out that you were gone and tried to find you.

I believe you we spend ALOT of time together I don't want her to have separation anxiety though :/

I am so glad you found her, I was so worried! It sucks she decides to escape after so long of not escaping

I'm glad my Lab x isn't a escape artist and behaves, he's been good for 5 years now. I do have one escape artist, a Kelpie x but as long as I'm home she'll stay in the yard. She used to jump the fence when I left a while back but now she behaves and stays in the yard but I don't risk it when I leave because of her fear/aggression issues so she must be contained.

I'd feel horrible always chaining a dog while they are outside and not giving them freedom so in glad my dogs behave.

Here, if it makes you feel better I'll tell you my own terrible dog owner story:

About a week after I adopted Amy I had her out on a walk. My pharmacist is a nice local place - they know me when I walk in and it only takes about a minute to jet in there. I just had to stop in for a second. So I fastened Amy to a pole right outside the front window, and walked in, and when I got to the window her harness was lying empty on the ground. I just about DIED. I ran back out, nearly trampling some people on the way, and there she was attempting to get INTO the store I was in. She was just trying to figure out where I went. I had no idea she could escape her harness until that moment. She's a sneaky devil.

She doesn't really have separation anxiety anymore. But she definitely wants to know where I am and what I'm doing. I've told my coworkers it won't surprise me if someday Amy just come trotting into my workplace to say hi.

OMG Good to hear!! One of my friends lost his dog one time and like many people who have previously posted.. the humane society said they didnt have his dog.. He went anyway and low and behold there is his dog! Lying bastards at the humane society are there to benefit themselves and their friends. Good looking dog wont last long with untrustworthy employees.

Glad to hear you got her back without trouble and it sounds like you will now do what it takes that it doesn't happen again!

Awesome!
