Ya, the simple bone, everyday wouldn't work for me. I feel bad enough leaving them in kennels, lol. When you put them in there, you should be of the mindset of "look man, you're going in this kennel, and I don't give a shit what you think about it. You dog. Me human. I'm out." |

They pick up on that, you know. |

Don't think of their kennels like prisons. Think of them more like dens. That's where their house is, their food and water bowls are, and it most likely has a homey sore of feel to them. Kongs work great to keep mine occupied. So do balls, rubber toys if they're not bad chewers and in one case a food pan. You might have to experiment a little to find the right toy but you'll find something if you keep at it.

Ours used to get the black extreme kong balls filled until they decided they could shred them once a lil' piece had been torn. We used to fill them with a certain amount of their food for the next day (so they wouldn't be over fed) mixed with water and frozen.
We've upgraded to -black ring goughnut -galileo nylabone Both are just chew toys... not really for mental stimulation. We do treadmill them before putting them in their outdoor kennels though, so they have at least some form of exercise first. ---------- Post added at 12:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:29 AM ---------- http://www.goughnuts.com/GoughNuts_Black.html http://shop.goughnuts.com/product.sc...0&categoryId=1 |

Both of mine are in the kennels during the day while I work, about 6.5 hours. I leave a couple different nylabones in there for them, and occasionally, a kong with pb or something in it as a treat. They do just fine, and as other's stated on here, they most likely will just sleep all day. I know, if I had a quiet house to myself, without the kids there, I'd sure as hell be content to lie around sleeping for another 6 hours! lol
You can also start feeding your dogs in their kennels. Its a good idea when you have more than one dog anyways, but it helps them feel like their kennel, really is their "room". Just make sure whatever you leave in the kennels with them is pretty much in-destructible. (ie, stainless steel bowls, nylabones, etc.)You don't want them deciding to de-fluff a toy while you're gone, and eating the whole thing or something. ![]() |

Lol kongs..............
Ok people................i know im not the only one who has dogs that destroy kongs within the hour! Them fuckin toys aint safe! Those little red chunks you find all over can be induced a potentially harmfull to your dog! Btw, the reason canned food is looked down on is because majority of its useless other than enticing dogs to eat. most canned food is 75% water. Theres more condensed nutrients per kibble in dry food than youll find in wet. Wet food also aint the greatest for theyre teeth. Youll notice more teeth cleanin with wet. The only thing wet has over dry is the protiene source isnt baked, which is easier on the kidneys and liver when consumed/processed. However, you can overcome that issue in kibble simply by soaking your kibble in luke warm water for about 5-10 minutes before serving! |

Yea but they're talking about adding wet food to a kong and freezing it. Which there's nothing wrong with as long as that's not the dog's meal and you're giving it as a kong only treat. I used to do it when I fed kibble. My dog was no worse for the wear because of it.
IMO, it beats freezing peanut butter or some crappy dog treat in the kong. I actually stuff chicken feet in mine when I decide to give a kong instead of an antler (rare). But it only keeps the dog amused for 10-15 min. |

I must be the biggest douche of all. Most of the time i don't put anything in the crate but the dog. Once in a great while I will toss in a Kong or a Nylabone product, but usually only if I am here and crating so I can mop or something.
As far as chewies like Kongs or ropes and what have you...well, I have had dogs swallow enough pieces of thread to have a real hard time pooping, pieces of cow hooves broke off and caused me a total of $600 in vet bills and I've seen 3 dogs (2 of them mine) work a piece or two off of a black Kong. So, I only like to give the dogs toys in crate now if I am here to keep an eye on things. Even the best toys and bones can have pieces chipped off by a power chewer and cause a problem. |

I don't have issues with Kongs and Snow. Once she gets the food out shes done with it. Now, I don't like Nylabone either. Their toys end up with these little shavings and are messy to clean up and the dogs can swallow them.. At least with my two. Koi loves Nylabone (who is the terror that shredded one) and Snow prefers the real thing. lol.
