Default Pet Insurance
Hello,

I am looking into some good, cost -effective pet insurance. Any input one the ones you have or experienced is helpful. My friend suggested one through AETNA Pets Best?
into that now.

Thank you for your opinions on any pet insurances!

My pittie is insured through Pets Best. I haven't had to submit a claim for anything yet, but I chose it based on recommendations from others who've been pleased with it.

ETA: Also heard good things about Pet Plan, and Embrace.

We have PetPlan for our chocolate lab (1 yr old). I work in insurance so I took my time picking out the insurance that would cover the most. PetPlan won it for me. They cover the cost of emergency or vet visit and not the "resonable / customary fees" as the other pet insurance companies do.

Unfortunately when our puppy was 5 months old we had to test the insurance as he was admitted to UPenn for 4 days. Within a week of submitting the paperwork we were issued a check for the amount due. The best is that the insurance is not loss rated so we will not get crushed when we renew next year.

Smart thinking SouthPhillyLady. If there was just one thing I could have done differently with my cat, it would have been to get insurance when he was young and healthy. He was so low maintenance I couldn't foresee any issues in the future, but when he was diagnosed with diabetes (making it too late to get him insured) around age 10 it was a big hit financially. Luckily I was able to keep up with it, but it would have been a lot easier if some of it was covered. Now when I think about getting another pet, I always figure in insurance to the cost break down.

Instead of insurance, I went with Pet Assure. I am extremely happy with them, I saved tons of money already. The way it works is that you go to one of the vets in their network, and get 25% off every single bill. There is no hassle at all.
I heard things about insurance companies when I was doing research that I didn't like (denials, pre-existing condition exclusions, waiting periods etc.), so I decided to give Pet Assure a try. I'm glad I did!

i need to insure my two 3 yr old male cats. i have seen ads for VPI, Embrace, and something through PAWS (not sure the exact name). i have had to shell out 4k once before for a vet operation, and cannot handle that again. the Embrace catolog made them look pretty good, they pay 80% of all costs, according to the catolog.

We've had PetPlan for about 3 years now- we got it after our Dane had pneumonia and spent a $900 overnight stay at the emergency vet. We haven't had to submit a claim yet (knock on wood), but we went with PP because it was the only one I could find that covered hereditary conditions.
