About a week before we got Gunther I was watching friends and heard it. I decided that would be his name. It suits him very well. He gets called all kinds of nicknames; gunnie boo, bookie bear, poop a doop, Gundo... Lol

Bogart I named after Humphrey Bogart. We called him Bo for short. He went back to the people we got him from after about a month. They call him MJ.

Jessie the chihuahua is "Jessie Jayne" - My parents are bikers and my mum named her the girl version of Jesse James lol

Spanky the boston terrier was originally Darla... but it was just too cute and soft for her! A mischievous, trouble maker name like Spanky fits MUCH better. Shortly after I changed it, I had a weird moment and renamed her Waffle. It didn't stick, but those that knew her back then still call her Spankerton Soggybottom Waffleton Her AKC registered name was chosen by the breeder, and because she's deaf and not able to show, I re-named her with my own name - FlyingPurplePeopleEater. Again, because it just fit.

Bindah the APBT... she was getting into trouble one morning, and we (my mother and I) were shouting random names at her. I think she said Bindah, and it stuck. Somewhere along the line, the nickname "Bean" came into play and that's what she normally gets called now. Her registered name is Teal Bulldogge's/Ice Road's Teal Sands of Sheeba, after her dam (Sheeba)

Ruger the APBT... I had picked out three names that I planned to use on future dogs, Ruger after the gun. His registered name is Teal Bulldogge's Asphalt Cowboy of Sheeba/Ice Road's Asphalt Cowboy after one of my favourite songs, and his dam Sheeba

Jolene the AST... I remember the exact moment I said, "I am going to get a bitch and name her Jolene!" At the time, I thought my next dog would be a Saluki bitch... but Jo was dropped into my lap, and the name fit! Her registered name is Azteca's Thundersnow... I like weird weather conditions lol

Bukra the saluki... I was originally going to name him Jordan, after the country. But everyone kept asking "Like Michael Jordan?!" and the name just didn't suit him perfectly. I went through lists of words in different COO languages... and finally came across Bukra, which means tomorrow in Arabic. I loved it, and it stuck! His registered name is Al Sayad [breeder's kennel name] 4Continents [litter theme] Ice Road [my kennel name] to Anubis [because I like ancient Egyptian lore]

Zealand the APBT... I spent weeks trying to come up with the perfect, unique call name for him. I was getting really worried, because nothing was clicking and I was taking it as a bad omen. When I picked him up, he wasn't in my truck more than four minutes before Zealand came to mind and I knew that was his name! His registered name is ATW's Ice Ghost Pumpkin... Icy, in reference to my kennel name, and Ghost Pumpkin is actually a coffee drink that was featured at the coffee shop where my best friend works. I really, really liked the name because Halloween is my favourite holiday and both parts of it can reference that! Though now that I know him, I wish I'd waited.. I might have pegged him with a name referencing the Lion King

I just like the name Veronica; I had it picked out before we got her. After we got her she became Veronica-Lynn Pit Bull.

Our previous dog a Basset Hound we we named Frances Abigail; again we just liked it and had it picked out before we got her - but it really did fit her.

The only other dog I got to name was my first dog ever - a Dobe. I was so little I could barely speak and I named her Leisha. I really meant to name her Alicia...but I couldn't fully pronounce the name.

(We let my mom name the toy poodle; who ended up being called Chocolate...I didn't approve.)

Wilson is named after Wilson Combat, or Dr. Wilson on the show House, whichever you prefer

Piper took awhile.. she was so teeny as a pup and I'd see her and say "You're a little pip!" (like pip squeak). Didn't want to name her Pip, so she became Piper. Although go figure, I now call her Pip more than anything LOL.

Sako is named after the rifle brand, NOT the watch! I swear, every time I tell someone his name they say "After the watch?" No. After the gun. His registered name is Kayo's Make An Impact.

Pongo- he was white w/ black spots and I was 14 when we got him and loved 101 Dalmatians.

Casper- big white dog and I am sooooo creative!

Rocky- came w/ name

Ronon- after actor Jason Mamoa role in Stargate Atlantis, Ronon Dex

Circe- greek goddess, roommates' dog and we did a vote and it was between Circe or some Japanese anime names that I would never remember or be able to say.

Ripley- came w/ name

Jack- came w/ Jack, but we kept it b/c I love Capt Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp).

Rebel- I had a "R" theme going and after Riddick died, I needed a R name and Rebel suited him since he is a bit of a rebel.

Riddick (RIP) Vin Diesel character Riddick (Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, Dark Fury)

Xander (placed in new home) Vin Diesel character Xander Cage in XXX

I like naming dogs after tv shows, movies or favorite actors. I have a list of names to use. Right now I want an entire pack of dogs named after characters from Spartacus. I love the unique names they used in the show.

DH named Rosie before I met them. He picked it from a song that he liked.

Nick was named Romeo when we adopted him, and neither of us liked that. I kinda wanted to name him Teddy, but DH liked Nick better, and it really fits him. (Or Nicky Boy, or Nickolas, dependind on the mood)

Frankie was named Francine at the shelter when we got her. We just changed it a little. Not my favorite name, but she knows it, so it'll stick. I mostly call her Puppy Girl.

Sheeba was named after a dog my husband had when he was a child.

Diesel was named after the actor Vin Diesel. He just LOVE him!

Spike was named actually by the breeder's little girl. He was actually her favorite out of the litter and she was very sad to see him go, so she was promised we would continue to call him Spike, for her!

Daisy Duke - My boxer came with the name, she was rescued at 2 years old and i figured it was too late to change it now.

Jasmine - Rescued at 8-9 weeks with no name and I wasn't sure what to name her. I googled "Female cartoon characters" and as soon as i came across Princess Jasmine the search was over

Baloo was "Russell" at the pound where I got him but I didn't like it. Baloo is named after the bear in the Jungle Book. In the movie, the bear is blue, and named Baloo. I thought it fit. And my Great Grandmother's maiden name is actually Belew(pronounced the same way) So I went back and forth with how I would spell it and I decided people were more likely to pronounce it correctly spelled Baloo. And he acts like a bear. So we call him Baloo Bear or Blue Bear. Haha

My childhood dog I named Ellie Mae (RIP). I thought I made it up myself but it turns out one of the characters in The Rescuers (that old cartoon with the mice) was named Ellie Mae. I probably watched that movie a million times as a kid. I liked that name a lot. I may have to use it again.

My parents new puppy I helped them name. I suggested Ruger since my dad is a gun nut. It stuck for a while, but they decided to change the name to Bandit because that crazy puppy would steal stuff all the time and just hide it. Stuff that was in a box on a shelf and he'd be walking around the house with it. Crazy dog. Luckily he responds to both because I always forget and call him Ruger.

Bindi my Big derpy Shepherd mutt was named after the Croc Hunter's Daughter, since we were told she was mostly Aussie. Funny thing is, When we were looking at her pic online, I suggested Bindi and my Dad didn't like it but when she was brought home, I knew Bindi would be her name.

Digger, my dumb little dachshund/Terrier mutt (RIP) Actually had a story behind her name. I was in First grade when I got her and for some reason I really liked the name 'Digger'. We were planning on getting a male dog, but at he last second we decided to get a female. I couldn't think of anything else, so Digger kinda stuck. And she REALLY lived up to her name xD

Isabella was a name I always liked.. even as a kid.. and I figured if I was ever going to have a daughter her name would be Isabella.. well.. I'm not having kids.. and it just suited her.. she is my chihuahua

Molly came with the name.. and I really don't like it much.. but it just sort of stuck cause I was just fostering her at first.

Bauer got his name from Jack Bauer from the tv show 24... I didn't want to name him for 24hrs cause we thought he wasn't going to survive.. but I said if he lived for 24hrs.. his name would be Bauer!

Havoc's litter was a "H" litter.. so the person who first bought him named him Hunter.. not a fav name of mine.. so it was a toss up between Helsing.. or Havoc.. and hubby liked Havoc better.. and it suits him! His registered name is Havoc Vom Haus Juros!

Some of you have spent a lot of thought on your dog's name, and it's not anywhere in their registered name... Is this pretty common?

I named my now 12 yr old bitch Cinder Block, (which is also her registered name) because when I brought her home at 12 weeks old, she was a little solid brick, with very straight legs. I thought of it the minute I set her on the ground, and it stuck.

I named my 9 yr old male Lucius, (also his registered name) but not because of Harry Potter. When the movie Gladiator came out, I loved the little blonde boy that visits "the Spaniard", and I loved his name. I wanted to make sure Lucius wasn't just a fictional character, so I looked him up. Lucius is named after the Roman Emperor "Lucius Junius Brutus" who was was the founder of the Roman Republic in 509 BC. Lucius wasn't even born at the time of that movie, but when Cinder had her first litter, I kept the last male born, and he was a "blonde" brindle, so the movie reference goes too.

My dad and I named his new girl Hemi Cuda (also her registered name) because he's been a Mopar guy since before I was born. A "Hemi" is one of Dodge's most powerful motor, and a "Cuda" is a very sought after Dodge, which is even more sought after with a Hemi in it. The "Cuda" (it was shortened from "Barracuda") is my dad's favorite model, and he's had several of them. So, Hemi Cuda was born.

As a peace offering when I bought the pup home, I decided to let the boyfriend name him.

We're also a BIG car household. I'm a mopar nut and he's a ford guy. Since I already named the last cat Hemi, he went with something that was "close to his heart".

The pup's name is K.B, short for Kenne Bell. Which comes from this vvvvvv

Well, Sako's is Kayo's Make An Impact, so it goes along with the gun theme, I think! I haven't come across many dogs (actually.. any!) that have their call name in their show name.

I named Brandy after one of my favorite alcoholic drinks black berry brandy. That was going to be her whole registered name with the ADBA and AADR but it was to long so I registered her as All or Nothing after a Madball song that I thought sounded a lot like the APBT.

My husky mix came with the name princess when we adopted her and ot was her name her whole life so we didnt change it. And I named my adopted pit bull mix Jake after the band Less Than Jake.
